Last week, we reported about a company called Liquipel, which claimed to make the iPhone waterproof without a case, with a process that applies a patent pending waterproof coating on the iPhone to protect it from water or liquids.
Though it seemed too good to be true, quite a few of you seemed to be interested in the technology that could waterproof your iPhone.
Pocket-lint reports that HzO - another startup demonstrated their "WaterBlock" technology at CES 2012, which could make smartphones like the iPhone waterproof.
Here's what HzO has to say about their "WaterBlock" technology:
It is a chemical vapor deposition that blankets vital electronic circuitry with a nano-thin film containing highly effective, water-repelling properties. For the aesthetically conscious (you know who you are), no worries! WaterBlock™—when applied to clean, moisture-free surfaces, including plastic, metal, ceramic, steel, or tin—is transparent and creates a finish that doesn’t disrupt the look and feel on whatever it is applied. So, until you need it, you’ll forget it’s even there.
Pocket-lint reports that the company is in talks with companies like Apple to use their technology in future iPhones:
"We showed the Samsung Chairman the technology with a Samsung Galaxy S that we had coated with HZO and he couldn't believe his eyes," a representative of the company told us. "Samsung is really excited by the tech."
The company has told us that they are also talking to Apple as well, hoping to be able to let Apple make the iPhone 5 waterproof.
"We expect HZO to be in next season's phones," HZO told Pocket-lint rather confidently.
You can check out the video of the demo and how the technology works below:
We doubt the technology will make it to the sixth generation iPhone, but it would be quite nice if future iPhones are waterproof - one less thing to worry about. What do you think? Sound off in the comments.

Now is the time to buy stock people!
This is outlandish, what about normal wear and tear? Abrasion… Of this is a nano film whats to say we dont rub if off by playing button masher games like street fighter.
this is the same thing i was thinking, or how about charging, and earphone usage? Or just changing cases every so often.Sounds cool, but im sceptical about its real world usage. To many variables to consider and no clarification on the senarios mentioned above.
I think it actually covers the pcb itself rather then the external housing.. Otherwise water would just pour in through the jacks n speakers etc..
This will be great with my dslr
COOL! would definitely by a future iDevice with this
It does say “applied to device *interior*” there, so I don’t see how button mashing street fighter would affect it.. Not sure about geadphone port or where their definition of interior begins/ends though..
A short on the headphone port wouldnt damage the phone in the slightest as long as the logic board is protected from any.
Fake! Apple doesn’t talk unless non-disclosure is signed.. Been there, done that. This is not real.
Price of mobile phones will sky rocket it is only a fad until it becomes the norm
It will be nice special those days when is raining days….i love it….
Does the water like dry inside phone after going in and being there for a while?
