iPhone 4S Launch in Beijing Cancelled Due to Unruly Crowd

It looks like Apple's iPhone 4S launch in Beijing, China has run into some trouble. We had reported earlier that iPhone 4S launch in China was greeted with long lines.

M.I.C Gadget now reports that Apple has cancelled the launch at Apple's Sanlitun retail store in Beijing due to voilence breaking out between a gang of scalpers ahead of the opening.

M.I.C Gadget reports:

Lines outside the Apple store in Beijing’s Sanlitun district show no signs of shortening, causing frustration for the thousands of fans and scalpers desperate to get their hands on the iPhone 4S. Now some of that disappointment is turning to anger, with reports of fights breaking out between gangs of scalpers, and guess what, Beijing SWAT teams arrived. So, the Apple store employees later announced that the launch of iPhone 4S is cancelled at the Apple’s flagship store in Beijing, and all scalpers are pissed.

M.I.C Gadget reports that when the Apple Store announced its decision to cancel the launch, some scalpers started throwing eggs on the Apple Store glass windows.

This is not the first time Apple has had trouble from scalpers, who buy iPhones in bulk to sell them in the grey market at higher prices.

M.I.C Gadget has posted the following photos and video of the incident:

It's a pity as a lot of genuine customers were waiting for long time in very cold conditions to be the first to get their hands on a shiny new iPhone 4S.

Apple should do away with the lines and go online only for a couple weeks to avoid this Black Friday style of violence. And people wouldn’t have to camp or stand in the cold. Yes the website would probably go crazy but that’s still better than fights breaking out.
