We have some good news for iPhone 4S and iPad 2 users who are eagerly waiting for a jailbreak.
iOS hacker pod2G whose untethered jailbreak was used by Chronic Dev team to release the Corona iOS 5.0.1 Untether and by the iPhone Dev team to release Redsn0w to perform an untethered jailbreak on iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 4G and iPod touch 3G has just revealed that he has made more progress on jailbreaking iPhone 4S and iPad 2.
He tweeted:
I made a step today for the A5. With some luck we could expect a release in a week.
iPhone 4S and iPad 2 are both powered by Apple's A5 system-on-chip.
Wondering if you should stay on iOS 5 or upgrade to iOS 5.0.1? pod2G has also adviced iPhone 4S and iPad 2 users to upgrade to iOS 5.0.1:
Yes, upgrade your 4S and iPad 2 to 5.0.1.
So please don't forget to update your iPhone 4S and iPad 2 to iOS 5.0.1 before Apple releases iOS 5.0.2/iOS 5.1.
pod2G hasn't mentioned if the jailbreak will be untethered or tethered. We're hoping that it is an untethered jailbreak.

Great work pod2G!!! Can I upgrade my 4s to 5.0.1 and preserve the baseband? I’ll take a teathered / untethered jailbreak, either one. I just need to jailbreak this 4s soon.
As far as I remember baseband is only an issue if u need to unlock ur phone. If u don’t need to unlock it you don’t need to worry and he’s saying update to 5.01 because once apple releases an update 5.02 or 5.1 u won’t be able to get 5.01 anymore and then you won’t be able to jailbreak till they come out with a new jb which takes months. So everyone with a 4s and or iPad 2 do like he says if u want the jb upgrade to 5.01 now before apple takes away that option.
if i saved my shsh for 5.0.1 now and not yet upgrade to it, even with the release of 5.0.2 or 5.1, i am still able to RESTORE to 5.0.1 right?
No it would restore and update to the newest version
update 5.0.1 with preserved baseband 1.0.11 with redsnow so that way incase they have an unlock your good..if not you can always update it latest base band for future unlock..don’t forget to save your shsh..; )

Use redsn0w to preserve it. Lots of articles all over the internet.
AFAIK, latest redsn0w only support A4 thanks to Limera1n bootrom exploit. So iPhone 4 still able to use it to preserve BB. But not in the case of A5. There is currently now way to updates A5 iPhone 4S n iPad 2 to iOS 5.0.1 without upgrading its BB.
Only hope is that before pod2g releases A5 JB, he would have pass his tools DevTeam so they can update redsn0w to support preserving A5 iOS 5.0.1 BB.

iPhone4,1_5.0.1_9A406_Restore.ipsw
iPhone4,1_5.0.1_9A405_Restore.ipsw
Will both work and what is going on anyway.

9A406 fixes a SIM issue some people were using. Use that one if you can on your iPhone 4S.

No he didn’t. If I recall, he gave what work he did come up with to the dev teams and THEY released a jailbreak.

Divxclub apple instead of making a new firmware update. Fixed the issues with IOS 5.0.1 it would make sense if they tell you to update meaning you would only get the newer Firmware that apple released meaning yes it is ok to use the newer one and i’m sure they tested it. From what i read it was just a few issues some Iphone 4S users had issues with and it was corrected.
Tethered or untethered I don’t care. I just want my phone jailbroken. I need tlert bad!

Since Cydia provides commercial apps, and developers generate income from such apps, there is money at stake. A jailbreak “must” be released, or new generation iPhone owners will simple cease being potential customers for Cydia-based developers. The cycle must go on in perpetuity; Cydia will simply lose the interest of iOS users if new hardware is not supported via a jailbreak.
I have no doubt a jailbreak will be released. By whom and when remain questions. The A4/iOS5.01 jailbreak released recently isn’t brilliant in terms of stability but it got people visiting Cydia repositories again, and it’s a very good sign.

Given the previous tethered on A4 chip used Limera1n bottom exploit, I believe this one is untethered because A5 is not vulnerable to Limera1n, pod2g must have new exploit. If you had the chance to read the technical updates on his blog, you would probably guess he must have solved the injection vector issue. Maybe ionic has something to do with the new exploit, only time will tell.

I’m not sure on this one I want to see it work. Basically due to the floor in the iPhone untethered jailbreak and iBooks. If you can’t use your nice tablet properly for iBooks then what’s the point? A very clumsey work around at the moment for that one?

That was my question too. I’m on 4.3.3 JB, but i have saved my 5.0.1 shsh blobs in tinyumbrella and downloaded the 5.0.1 ipsw. shouldn’t that be enough to ensure that i can update when the new jb comes out. or do i have to update it now?
Yes, you should be able to restore to 5.0.1 anytime with the SHSH blob.

No, it will not unlock 04.11.08. Jailbreaking an iPhone does not mean unlocking it. You need ultrasn0w to unlock it, but 04.11.08 is not supported.
