Yesterday, iOS hacker pod2G provided more details about the untethered jailbreak for iPhone 4S and iPad 2 in the form of an FAQ.
He revealed that the exploit he had used to perform the untethered jailbreak relied on a developer account so it can't be released publicly.
He has just revealed in a blog post titled "Sandbox difficulties" that other members of the jailbreak community such as MuscleNerd of the iPhone Dev team and planetbeing who had ported Android to iPhone, have joined him to figure out a way to release the jailbreak for iPhone 4S and iPad 2 users.
He writes:

It is good to see members of the iPhone Dev team and the Chronic Dev team are working together on the jailbreak. Let's hope they figure out a way to perform an untethered jailbreak on iPhone 4S and iPad 2 that can be publicly distributed.

This is the best news regarding the iPhone 4S jailbreak I’ve heard yet. This should’ve happened from the get-go, but who am I to judge?

POD2G recommended that we update to 5.0.1. I would like to do this so I do not miss out on the opportunity to jailbreak my device when it is released but… How, if in any way, can i update from 5.0 to 5.0.1 and preserve my 1.0.11 baseband? I have searched google far + wide and I can not find the answer to this question. Would someone who knows what they are talking about, pleace enlighten me with your knowledge. I’d greatly appreciate it.!

May be off subject but I would be curious to know if I will have to repay for apps and tweaks bought from Cydia. Any ideas?
if you paid for the apps in cydia and have your login information, then no for the majority of the apps you do not have to repay. You log back in with your id. (Facebook in my case) and it will show you all your previous purchases.

I do wish they would fix the existing 5.0.1 JB before tackling a new JB. The horror stories are all over the web. An iPad JB with no iBooks? Ridikerous! It’s the US military approach to JB – Kuwait, Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran(?)… Finish the first mess before you move on to the next one.
Maybe if the US didn’t have to help the rest of the world while they all sat on their hands, they would be able to finish something. Plenty able to point fingers at the US saying why don’t you do this… why don’t you do that .. all the meanwhile sitting on their asses doing nothing. Th US has homeless, jobless, poor education, yet gives out more money in foreign aid then the rest of the world combined.

Uh, yeah, that’s the point – I didn’t JB. I’m pointing out the faulty logic in starting new projects when the old ones are still F’ed up. Maybe they are quietly working in the background on fixing the snackered 5.0.1 iPhone 4 untethered, but all we hear about is the upcoming 4s /iPad 2 JB. Let’s just say I have low expectations.
