Ahead Of iPad 3 Launch, U.S. Retailer Slashes iPad 2 Prices to $429

U.S. retailer Meijer announced an in-store price cut of $70 on the 16GB iPad 2 with Wi-Fi, in an attempt to clear out stock before the imminent iPad 3 launch.

The announcement was made via a weekly ad, which says that the sale runs only till stocks last and does not include "rainchecks or substitutions." The product listing on Meijer's websites notes that the last sale would end on February 25th.

The retail store is also giving discounts on other Apple products - a $5 discount on the $39 iPad 2 Smart Cover and a $10 discount on the $69 leather Smart Cover. It is also giving away $15 iTunes gift cards with each 8GB iPod touch.

$70 discount on the iPad 2 ad

It won't be very wise to buy the iPad 2 right now, even with the discount, as there are rumors that Apple will continue to offer iPad 2 (probably with lower storage), even after launching iPad 3, as the entry level iPad for $399 or $349. It would however make for an excellent Valentine's day present.

The iPad 3 is expected to be launched in March with a Retina display and an improved processor.

That’s why I just sold my iPad 2 3g 16gb for $480 cash yesterday. Saving for iPad 3…don’t have any need for 3g.
