Apple Releases Messages Beta For Mac

Hot on the heels of releasing the developer preview of OS X Mountain Lion, Apple has released a beta version of Messages app for Mac.

Messages is one of the major new features in OS X Mountain Lion and was released for iOS devices in October. It replaces iChat and allows you to send unlimited messages, high-quality photos and videos directly from your Mac to another Mac or an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.

Messages for Mac includes the following features:

  • Send unlimited iMessages to any Mac, iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch.
  • Start an iMessage conversation on your Mac and continue it on your iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch.
  • Send photos, videos, attachments, contacts, locations, and more.
  • Launch a FaceTime video call and bring the conversation face-to-face.
  • Messages supports iMessage, AIM, Yahoo!, Google Talk, and Jabber accounts.

You can download the beta version of Messages using this link. Apple will release the final version along with OS X Mountain Lion.
