Consomac reports that they’ve discovered a message in Messages beta for Mac that was released yesterday that indicates that Messages will be available only to OS X Mountain Lion users after the beta program has ended.
Messages is one of the major new features of OS X Mountain Lion that was unveiled yesterday. It replaces iChat and allows you to send unlimited messages, high-quality photos and videos directly from your Mac to another Mac or an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.
Messages Beta for Mac that was released yesterday is available for Mac OS X Lion users. However, as you can see from the text message in the screenshot below, it looks like Messages will be available only to OS X Mountain Lion users when it is available later this summer.
Thank you for participating in the Messages Beta program. With the inclusion of Messages in OS X Mountain Lion, the Messages Beta program has ended.
To continue using Messages, please visit the Mac App Store and purchase OS X Mountain Lion.
Apple doesn’t really need to make Messages exclusive to OS X Mountain Lion users as based on what we’ve seen so far, there are enough features to convince users to upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion. What do you think?
