Camera Grabber: Jailbreak Tweak Brings iOS 5.1’s Camera Shortcut to iOS 5.0.1 & iOS 5

If you haven’t upgraded your iPhone to iOS 5.1 but like the new and easier way to access the Camera app using the slider button that was introduced by in iOS 5.1 then it is now possible to add that functionality to your jailbroken iPhone on iOS 5.0.1 or iOS 5.

Developer cjori has released a new jailbreak tweak on Cydia called Camera Grabber for iOS 5 that brings the iOS 5.1 camera shortcut to iOS 5 and iOS 5.0.1.

This tweak makes the camera shortcut on the lock screen act like the iOS 5.1 camera shortcut. This means a few things:

  • The camera button is now a grabber – push the lock screen up and reveal the camera app.
  • If you don’t have a passcode set you will have full access to your photo library.
  • The camera shortcut always shows up (no need to double tap the home button).
  • Tapping the camera icon will make the lock screen bounce.
  • The camera icon looks more like a “grabber” and not a button (thanks to @XusBadia!)
  • The slide to unlock knob is a little shortened allowing the full “slide to unlock” text to be shown (this doesn’t slow down opening the camera interface)

Camera Grabber for iOS 5 is available on Cydia for free. So download it and let us know what you think of the new  camera shortcut in the comments.

Just got it .. Interesting features …keep it up .. Keep going

  • Thanks for the tip, which we’ll pass on to our app users. (The easier it is to access the camera, the better for all of us.)

I don’t like this feature. It’s useful but it looks like poop on the lock screen. What was wrong with the double tap? I don’t like change. Tim Cook is a moron. There, I said it!

Did it get pulled? Not finding it

    Just upgrade to iOS 5.1

Anyone know how this interacts with AnyLockApp (which I have set so that the lock screen camera button opens Camera+)?

I installed the tweak and it worked great, but when I turned off the phone and then turned it back on it was gone. Anyone else find this?

  • Got it… It slides up to the cam but doesn’t let you slide back down which is kind of a bummer. Can’t have everything I guess…Unless You decide you don’t want jailbreak and just update.

This is one of the very few features I like about 5.1.. I’m holding on to 5.0.1 until the untethered jailbreak for 5.1 comes out..

Downloaded the tweak but the cameran icon does not show up… Anything else I need to do??
