Hot on the heels of Chronic Dev team’s update on the iOS 5.1 jailbreak for Apple TV 3 and Apple TV 2, FireCore has released new versions of Seas0nPass and aTV Flash (black) that are compatible with Apple TV Software update 5.0.
Seas0nPass now allows users to perform a tethered jailbreak on their Apple TV 2 on Apple TV Software update 5.0 (iOS 5.1).
Seas0nPass currently provides a tethered jailbreak for the new 5.0 (iOS 5.1) AppleTV software. Functionally, both jailbreak types are identical, the only difference being that a tethered jailbreak requires the AppleTV to be connected to a Mac/PC when first powering it on. Since the AppleTV doesn’t have a battery, and is rarely ever powered off, this usually only needs to be done once.
Jailbreaking Apple TV enables users to install aTV Flash (black), which adds new features to the second generation Apple TV such as web browsing, Last.FM access, support for HTML5 video sites, stream media from most NAS devices and lots more
Apple released Apple TV software update 5.0 few weeks back to bring the icon-based user interface that was introduced with Apple TV 3 to Apple TV 2 users. In addition to it, iOS 5.1 for Apple TV 2 also brought the following new features:
- Movie purchases in iCloud: Support for buying movies on Apple TV and playing back purchased movies from iCloud
- Genius Recommendations: Recommendations for content on the iTunes Store based on previous rentals and purchases
- Screensaver photos: New National Geographic photos built-in for screensaver
- On-device sign-up: On-device sign up for content partners on Apple TV using your Apple ID
