While the need to close apps running in the background has been hotly debated, there are quite a few jailbreak tweaks like WeeCloseApps that allow you to kill apps running in the background to free up memory.
Auto App Killer is a new jailbreak tweak that as the name suggests kills apps running in the background to free up RAM.
The jailbreak tweak developed by ipodtouchmaster automatically kills apps when the amount of free RAM available reaches a certain level, which can be configured by you via the Settings app (Settings -> Auto App Killer), thus freeing up RAM on your iPhone.
You can also enable the Always Auto Kill toggle, which will automatically close an app that has no process running in the background without waiting irrespective of how much free RAM is available.
The app does not kill apps that are running in the background. So apps such as your GPS, VoIP or music apps that need to run in the background won’t be killed.
Auto App Killer is available in Cydia for $1.49. Please note it is currently not compatible with iPad nor does it support iOS 5.1.

While we didn’t notice any crashes, some readers are reporting that their iPhone started crashing after installing the tweak, so please proceed with caution.
