Update on iOS 5.1.1 Untethered Jailbreak For iPad2,4

iPad 2 users probably know by now that Absinthe 2.0.x released few days back by iOS 5.1.1 jailbreak team does not support the $399 iPad 2 Wi-Fi only model (iPad2,4).

The good news is that the jailbreak team is working hard to add support for iPad2,4 to Absinthe 2.0 – the iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak.

iOS hacker – planetbeing tweeted:

Need someone with an iPad2,4, can upload 200 MB quickly, knowledge of FTP. Send screenshot of Absinthe not working for confirmation.

He quickly got a response from a iPad2,4 user.

i have Mac OS and Ubuntu 12.04 on virtual machine can get windows 7 if needed pic.twitter.com/Yg5ELcO6

Now that they have access to the device, it remains to be seen, how much time it will take to add support for iPad2,4 model to Absinthe.
As always, we’ll let you know if there are any further updates.

Tip: You can follow these simple steps to find out if you own an iPad2,4:

  • Download the free linpack app from the App Store (direct iTunes link)
  • Launch the app and on the Home screen, it should display your iPad’s model number as seen below:

i have ipad 2 wifi only model and have successfully jailbreaked my device,
DIdnt find any trouble jailbreaking it,Why are you saying that it doesnot support ipad2 wifi only model even though my ipad 2 is wifi only model and its jailbreaked (ios 5.1.1)

    Regards

Good for you. But we are referring to the iPad 2 model, which comes with tweaked A5 chip – http://www.iphonehacks.com/2012/04/apple-tv-3-new-ipad-2-powered-by-smaller-a5-chip-32-nm-process.html. You can download the free linpack benchmarking app and find out your iPad’s model number. It will most likely be iPad2,1.

I have the iPad2 that I bought for 399. It won’t jailbreak with absinthe. I downloaded the linpack app and it says I have iPad 2,1. Is that right? Or did I do something wrong?

        • Ławę

Yes You paid 399 for iPad 2,1 399 bucks
          Mwahahahahaha

          • Jason

Ok that doesn’t help me. Why won’t it jail break if it’s the iPad 2,1.

        • shottisimo

Nevermind. I tried again and it is now jailbroken. thanks

  • Haggard

I have a iPad 2,4 and can’t wait for absinthe jailbreak to work with it
Keep up the good work guys

  • Logan

Can’t wait. It was so disappointing to try to jailbreak the day of release only to find out that my device was one of a few that wasnt compatible! Thanks guys and can’t wait to jailbreak!

  • Tarek

I have ipad2,4. It just sucks to have the only i device that is not jailbreakable…(for now). Keep the good work. Hope the see good news soon

  • Raymond

  • Chris

It is nice to finally see some promising information regarding the 2,4 jailbreak. Thank you, keep it up!

  • Lee

Yayyyyyyy i hope they release it soon :) these guys do a great job and can’t wait for it to come out :)

    Lee

  • HarheyMan

I also have ipad 2,4 and i’m pretty sure dev-team will get this resolved in no time… Thank you for the hard work…

  • Duc

I have that iPad 2,4 just bought it in best… And the JB works.

    • Haggard

It you get the free app called linpark open the app it should tell you what iPad you have eg
      IPad2,x / 2 cores / 1000MHz what does yours say

    • Haggard

If you get the free app called linpark open the app it should tell you what iPad you have eg

    • Logan

I dont believe that they were all released with the newer, more efficient chip. I read that for now it’s a toss up if your getting it or not when you make the purchase.

      • Haggard

I agree I got mine 3 weeks ago and it’s a iPad2,4 my friend got one last week new and it’s a iPad2,1 at the same cost I did
Also I would say is unlucky
But unlucky for me that I can’t jailbreak mine yet

        • Logan

Lol, true. But we have to stay positive. We still have a “better” iPad 2.

    • HarheyMan

Then your ipad is not an R2 if you are able to JB it….

  • HarheyMan

Does anyone know if there is a redsnow update to preserved BB on ios 5.1.1

  • Dufy

As the above post is rather misleading, if you have ipad2,4 linpack will say just that, ipad2,4

    • Logan

Or if you have an iPad 2 firmware 5.1.1 and try to jailbreak with absinthe 2.0.x and it says your Not supported. Definitely 2,4

  • Lee

yeah mine says ipad 2,4 and not supported soooo i have to wait :)

  • HarheyMan

I think the easy way to find out if you have ipad 2 wifi R2 (ipad2,4) or NOT. Go to settings,General and About. Scroll down till you see the Model # …… first two letters says MC then you have a ipad2,4 (R2). If it’s MB then it is not an R2 model…. Your good for JB… Hope this help

    • Jasonw

That’s weird. The linpack app says I have a iPad 2, 1, but my model number starts with MC. I will wait for the jailbreak to fully support all iPads before updating.

  • Impulse53

I almost cried the day the jailbreak came out and I could not jailbreak my ipad2 wifi R2. Much love to you guys for all your hard work and dedication. Once again thank you very much for not forgetting us.

  • Nick

The app said i had an iPhone 3. i have an iPhone 4…

  • Edward pcs

I was so happy the release n start donating but wen I tyre it it wasnt compatible iPad 2.4 :/

  • Bill

I am a little frustrated waiting for the jailbreak for my ipad, but what can you do but wait and be patient.
Keep up the good work guys, we appreciate it!

  • Yo Mama!

    Well……. let’s wait!!!!

  • Killa-p

  • ddd

i’ve been trying to restore my ipad 2 verizon locked fro 3 days now. it all started when my bro tried to update it to 5.1.1. it got stuck in about 3/4 to completion and got itunes error (-1). after that i can’t restore it anyway. i’ve tried almost every way on the internet but it just won’t restore. could you help me please ……… tried different computers different itunes different cables but still no luck..

    • http://www.iphonehacks.com iPhoneHacks

Put your iPad in recovery mode by following these steps.

Disconnect the USB cable from the iPad, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer’s USB port.
Turn off iPad: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for iPad to turn off.
      - If you cannot turn off iPad using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the iPad turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.

While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to iPad. When you reconnect the USB cable, iPad should power on.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the “Connect to iTunes” screen. When the screen with iTunes icon appears you can release the Home button.
If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following “recovery mode” alert
You should now be able to restore your iPad and then restore it from the backup.
