Dev Team Will Also Release Redsn0w And CLI Tool That Will Support iOS 5.1.1 Untethered Jailbreak

Jailbreak iPod Touch On iOS 4.2.1 Redsn0w

The demo video of Absinthe 2.0 – untethered jailbreak for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch running on iOS 5.1.1 that was briefly available, provided some interesting details of what to expect.

MuscleNerd of the iPhone Dev team has just provided some more information about the iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak.

He has published the following notes on his website:

All info below is tentative and subject to last minute refinements

  • @pod2g’s 5.1.1 jailbreak+untether is working out great. All devices are covered except for AppleTV3,1, which currently has no path for jailbreaking.
  • the initial 5.1.1 plan used a kernel exploit from @westbaer which unfortunately precluded use in iPod3,1 and iPhone2,1
  • @planetbeing stepped up and provided a kernel exploit that covers both of those. Those two JBers are the bomb!
  • The 5.1.1 A5 JB is very similar to the A5 5.0.1 JB. @pimskeks has done a tremendous job supporting both 5.0.1 and 5.1.1 in absinthe
  • Similar to 5.0.1, there will also be a 5.1.1 CLI “cinject” binary and redsn0w version of the 5.1.1 JB+untether. Absinthe, cinject, and redsn0w will all provide the same JB in different fashions.
  • timing is indeterminate. Plans are for this week, but a number of factors can influence that.
Users who depend on Ultrasn0w to unlock their iPhone, will have to use Redsn0w rather than Absinthe 2.0 or the Redsn0w command line interface tool, as it allows users to create custom iOS firmware files to preserve the baseband.
MuscleNerd has also requested users planning to use the iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak NOT TO pirate App Store apps. Jailbreaking has got a bad name due to piracy and we really hope that users jailbreak their devices to customize their iOS devices using some of the cool jailbreak apps and tweaks available on Cydia, rather than pirating apps from the App Store.
If you want to show your appreciation for their hard work, don’t forget to donate to the iOS 5.1.1 Jailbreak team via PayPal (using this link).

Who wants to jailbreak their iphone to use tweak? Only pro ppl use it for tweak and noob ppl use it for pirate. NooB.

  • joshua

and we pirate App Store apps and games due some are $69 for gps Maps When 99% other brand phone give it for free!!!!!!!

    • joshua

Voice Gps Just to make it 100% clear

    • Sweeeeet

Agreed, on android a gps i like is free, osx = £100!!! WHY!!!!???

    • http://www.iphonehacks.com/ iPhoneHacks

Can’t understand how you can justify piracy for that reason? Do we steal in the physical world because we can’t afford something? How is this different in the digital world?

People are buying apps at those prices, which is the reason it is available for that amount. If people didn’t then the developers would have slashed prices.

Sorry, it’s just wrong to rob developers of their hard earned money. It also ends up giving jailbreaking a bad name.

      • Tom

it’s not stealing because it’s still there.

in the physical world, it’s stealing because the stolen item is no longer there.

        • OMG Really

Wow… You took and are using something without first paying for it… the fact that its ‘still there’ means nothing. Quit coming up with excuses and stop pirating apps. You paid at least $200 for whatever device you have and you cant afford a 99cent app every now and then. Why even have it to begin with?

      • Yo Mama!

So Why They don’t give 3 days trail of the app… Cause some apps really sucks…!

      • rgb

I agree! someone DID, someone deserves for IT!

    • Dan

So because of Googles navigation is free on Android it means that you shouldn’t have to pay for apps like TomTom or Navigon?

  • Rip

    Don’t pirate??
    Yea right!!
That’s one of the main reasons i jailbreak. I even pirate cydia apps.

  • Randall

Is it still bad of I pirate the app but pay for the real one if I like it? I’m sorry, but I’m not dropping $10+ on an app unless I know for sure that I’ll use it and enjoy it.

    • Randall

If*, I don’t know why my phone likes to always autocorrect if to of lol…

  • eisenheim

    pod2g, simply the best!!!

    • Fad

We are eagerly waiting for jailbreak to pirate the apps store and to cheat the game.

      • Happy

And comments like yours is pushing the availability of being able to JB further away. Apple is very very rich if you hadn’t noticed, I wonder how much data they have logged from your phone on your illegal activities. I would think every iphone activity is ultimately traceable, and in the end if they want to get dirty with everyone they can afford it. Sooner or later all the law suits taking their time and money at the moment will eventually sort themselves out, then who do they start chasing?

  • Ryan

I used to pirate all apps…but then I paid for the apps that I like :P

    • Manu

Most people may not believe it. But I used to pirate iOS apps. But now, I slowly buying back all those apps (one at a time of course due to my wallet capability).

Now I really want the JB because of the tweaks. I mean, it’s hard for me to leave “kill all backgrounds” tweak.

  • Dion

dont worry I always buy apps, I do the jailbreak just becasue of the themes, and tweaks. CANT WAIT FOR THE JAILBREAK, I will donate, Please realese it soon!!

  • Tionus

…oooh, the suspense is killing me! I cant wait to install XBMC & dreamboard themes on my New iPad. I bookmarked the paypal link! :D Release super soon!

  • HJG

I have over 700 paid apps plus 1000 paid songs but miss my jail broken apps no need for piracy its just wrong

  • brnxmade

What if you bought a new Ipad with 5.1 already on it and have not the Taken a backup of SHSH blobs using TinyUmbrella

    • Kimk69

Save what ever blobs you can always but in this case you won’t need them yet cause your going to have to upgrade it to ios 5.1.1 to jailbreak it anyway which is the newest firmware out. But it’s still a good idea to get tiny umbrella now and save the 5.1.1 and any other future ones from now on.

  • Frank

I like to try before I buy… I delete more then I buy cause a lot of the apps are not very good. They should give a 30 day trial on apps but then they would lose lots of money so that won’t happen

  • simorino

sorry guys…but i really dont understand something in Absinthe A5….is it jailbreak and unlocking at the same time ?

    • Jack

No. Unlock will follow when/ if it becomes available in the future

      • Jack

…but if your device is already unlocked you can upgrade but will have to use redsn0w and not absinthe to preserve your baseband

  • Jae

A rose is a rose is a rose. Stealing is stealing. Try teaching the logic of stealing to your kids. I’m sure it’ll go over well.

  • James Shih

Anyone ever did a survey on JB phone that uses pirated app store apps? I would think that is the primary reason for people to jailbreak. It may give a bad name to JB, but you know, it is the undeniable truth.

  • HumanCentiPad

    Arrrrg!

  • Umar18

Hey is this work on ios 5.1 or only on ios 5.1.1 reply me plz any1?

  • ifonix

thanx for pod2g and dev team! thay did it again. so big thanx for all of you who made the effort and gonna give it for FREE!!!!!
as mouch as i don’t like apple polecy in ap store.. in europe the same app cost in stade of 0.99$. it cost 0. 99 euro.. aprox 1.23 dolars..
but pirating is stealing. developers and apple earn a lot of money from aap stoee but stealing is not the way. stop using it and apple will cut the price

  • Mike
