Walt Mossberg and Kara Swisher interviewed Apple’s CEO Tim Cook at the AllThingsD’s D10 Conference earlier today.
They asked Tim Cook questions about a range of topics. While he dodged questions about upcoming Apple products such as the rumored Apple Television (as you would expect), he did seem to hint at the possibility of Facebook Integration coming to iOS and improvements to Siri during his interview.
We take a look at some of the highlights from the interview.
When Kara Swisher and Walk Mossberg asked Tim Cook about the rumored television set. He dodged the question, but said that it remained an “intense area of interest” for Apple:
This is an area of intense interest for us. Many of us, the TV that we do watch, is almost exclusively on [the Apple TV]. That’s what my TV watching is. All of my movies, everything is coming through Apple TV.
So, the customer satisfaction with that product is incredible. We’re going to keep pulling this string and see where it takes us. Many people would say “this is an area in their life that they aren’t pleased with.” They might not be pleased with many things about it. The whole TV experience. It’s an interesting area. We’ll have to see what we do. Right now our contribution is Apple TV.
Tim Cook has hinted at the possibility of Facebook integration in iOS just like Twitter when he was asked “What is going on between you and Facebook?” by Mossberg:
For us, we want to provide customers simple and elegant ways to do the things they want to do. Facebook has hundreds of millions of customers. So, anyone that has an iPhone or iPad, we want them to have the best experience with Facebook on those platforms.
So stay tuned.
Mossberg also asked Cook, if Siri was up to Apple’s standards as he noted that though it feels like magic when Siri works really well, there are a lot of times it doesn’t work. Cook hinted at improvements coming to Siri over the coming months.
Customers love it. It’s one of the most popular features of our most popular product — the most popular phone in the world. But, there’s more that it can do. We have a lot of people working on this. You’ll be really pleased with the things you’ll see over the coming months. The breadth that you’re talking about — we’ve got some cool ideas about what Siri can do. We have a lot going on on this. […]
[..] I think you’ll be really happy with where it’s going.
During the interview, Tim Cook also revealed some more interesting tidbits such as:
- While “S” in iPhone 3GS stood for speed, Tim Cook revealed that “S” in iPhone 4S stands for Siri (not surprisingly.)
- Tim Cook admitted that Apple needs to be more social and hinted that it is considering killing Ping – Apple’s social network for music.
- Apple didn’t look at buying Instagram, which Facebook acquired for $1 billion
- According to Tim Cook, Steve Jobs was an awesome flip-flopper
- Tim Cook plans to double down on secrecy on products
