Mashable reports that it has received a media event for a major “Microsoft Event” scheduled for June 18th in Los Angles.
Microsoft hasn’t provided any other details about the event other than saying “This will be a major Microsoft announcement — you will not want to miss it”.
Microsoft is set to unveil a tablet next week that will mark its entry into rival Apple’s territory with its own branded product, TheWrap has learned. [..]
[..] But an individual with knowledge of the company said that Microsoft would introduce a Microsoft-manufactured tablet at the event, marking a foray into a new hardware category that would put the company in direct competition with giant rival Apple.
AllThingsD reports that Microsoft’s tablets will be powered by ARM microprocessors as well as traditional PC processors.
It looks like Microsoft believes that by developing its own tablet, it will be able to compete with Apple’s tight integration, rather than entering the booming tablet market only through its traditional hardware partners. We’ve seen Google take this approach with its Nexus series of smartphones.
Microsoft has seen this strategy work out quite well for them with the Xbox and Kinect, so the possibility of Microsoft entering the market with its own tablet cannot be ruled out. It remains to be seen if it will be able to make a dent in iPad sales. What’s your take? Would you be interested in a tablet made by Microsoft?Like this post? Share it!
