However, uncharacteristically it has been greeted with short lines and no chaos thanks to the pre-sale reservation system.
When Apple launched the iPhone 4S earlier in the year, it had to suspend in-store sale due to crowd trouble. To avoid those issues Apple has introduced a pre-sale reservation system that requires customers to reserve the new iPad in advance. Customers can reserve the new iPad daily from 9am to 12pm and are given a pickup time for the following day or later.
The new iPad has gone on sale almost four months, but Apple had to delay the launch of their tablet in China due to the dispute over the ‘iPad’ trademark in China with Proview Technologies. Apple finally settled the dispute with Proview earlier in the month by paying them $60 million for the rights to the “iPad” trademark in China.
