Sprint Drops iPhone 4S Price To $149.99; Also Waives $36 Activation Fee

Apple is widely speculated to unveil the hotly anticipated next generation iPhone at a special event on September 12th, followed by the release on September 21st.

Here’s another sign that ‘iPhone 5‘ launch is imminent, AllThingsD has noticed that Sprint has quietly dropped the price of the 16GB iPhone 4S to $149.99 from $199.99 with a 2-year contract.

In addition to the $50 discount, Sprint is also waiving the $36 activation fee, if you buy the iPhone 4S on its website. Sprint is the only carrier to drop the price of the iPhone 4S. The entry level iPhone 4S is available for $199.99 on AT&T, Verizon and Apple’s website.

It is quite possible that Sprint who has agreed to buy 30.5 million iPhones over the next four years from Apple, is trying to make it more attractive for users to switch to their network by offering it at a discount. Sprint is also the only U.S. to offer unlimited data plans.

Sprint sold only 1.5 million iPhones in the last quarter, where as Verizon sold 2.7 million iPhones and AT&T sold 3.7 million iPhones in the same quarter.

Are you be tempted to buy the iPhone 4S for $149.99? Or would you prefer to wait for Apple to launch the new iPhone?
