Breaking: Apple Sends Out Invite For iPhone 5 Event on September 12

The Loop reports that Apple has just sent out invites for the eagerly awaited media event on September 12.

The event will be held at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco and is scheduled to begin at 10:00 AM Pacific or 1:00 PM Eastern.

As you can see below, the tag line on the invitation says “It’s almost here“.

Apple is widely expected to unveil the hotly anticipated next generation iPhone at the event. Apple is also expected to announce the release date for iOS 6 – the next generation mobile operating system for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.

The shadow on the invite seems to indicate that Apple will indeed be calling the next generation iPhone – ‘iPhone 5′.

Is it possible that they could be announcing 5 products: next gen iPhone, ipod touch, ipod nano, ipod shuffle, and ipad mini? I don’t know what the normal release dates are for these products (iPods), so maybe that’s not it…just a thought other than the obvious idea that it’s probably the iphone 5.

Since iPhone is the most important product in Apple’s product lineup, doubt Apple would want any major product to share the stage with the new iPhone.

While Mike makes a pretty logical guess, I have to agree that Apple wouldn’t want to “dull” the hype for the phone itself by splitting the excitement among multiple device intros.

Their NEXT event, however, may be one for multiple device announcements.
