Apple finally unveiled their hotly anticipated 6th generation iPhone – the iPhone 5 at the media event on Wednesday.
iPhone 5 is 18% thinner and 20% lighter than the previous generation and comes with several new features and improvements such as a taller 4-inch display, faster A6 chip, improved front and back-facing cameras, support for faster 4G LTE networks, improved battery life and more.
Apple has announced that iPhone 5 will be available in US, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and the UK on Friday, September 21 and will start taking iPhone 5 pre-orders from Friday, September 14th. It hasn’t clarified the time yet.
But Sprint – Apple’s carrier partner in the U.S. has announced that it will start taking pre-orders on it’s site from 12:01 am PT or 3:01 am ET on Friday. So it is very likely that Apple and it’s other major carrier partners in the U.S. – AT&T and Verizon will also start accepting pre-orders from 12:01 am PT or 3:01 am ET. Update: Verizon has also confirmed that it will start taking pre-orders from 12:00 PT or 3:00 am ET.
We expect iPhone 5 preorders to start in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and the UK at 12:01 AM local time on Friday, September 14th. [Update: iPhone pre-orders haven't started in countries like Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong or Japan yet, so it looks like pre-orders will start at 12:01 AM PT in these countries as well. We'll let you know if we get any further updates.]
