Apple May Unveil New iPods Alongside iPhone 5 At September 12 Event

While Apple is expected to unveil the next generation iPhone at the September 12 media event, 9to5Mac reports that Apple may also unveil new iPods at the event.

9to5Mac reports that while the details of the changes coming to the new iPods are still sketchy, Apple could release two or three updated product lines.

The updated iPods are expected to come in multiple colors, one of them is expected to come in two storage capacities, while the other two are expected to come in single storage capacity.

Based on that information, it looks like the two product lines correspond to the iPod shuffle and iPod nano and possibly rules out iPod touch, which comes in three storage capacities.

9to5Mac speculates:

We’re not sure what the third line is (yet), but we speculate that it may have to do with a possibly upcoming Apple device in which case moldings have begun floating around for. We previously noted the emergence of evidence for a taller, small iPod form factor with a larger display and a home button.

Many have referred to this purported design as the new iPod nano. But with Apple investing so many resources into the current iPod nano with its small, clip-able design, perhaps this taller, iOS device-like mini iPod design is a new iPod line altogether.

Perhaps, like with the new MacBook Pro models, Apple will ship current-generation and next-generation iPod nano designs. Or, perhaps, this new design is named something else altogether. With the iPad mini incoming, perhaps an iPod mini would be nice to have around as well.

Apple has previously launched new iPod and iPod touches along with the new iPhone, so this cannot be completely ruled out.

The possibility of a new iPod product line with a larger rectangular display and a Home button definitely sounds interesting and would be a nano version of the iPod touch.

Now that the invites have been sent for the September 12 event, we won’t have to wait too long to find out what Apple has in store for us.

The why the “5″ in the shadow? That only seems to match with the iPhone. Wouldn’t there be something else in the graphic is there was another product?
