Amazing 3D Renderings Of iPad Mini

Ever since Apple launched the iPad in 2010, there have been rumors that Apple will launch a smaller and cheaper iPad mini to compete with cheaper Android based tablets.

And it surely seems like forces are aligning for an iPad mini announcement this year, maybe even this month.

Designer Martin Hajek has created these amazing 3D renderings of the iPad mini based on the rumors and leaked iPad mini parts, which gives a glimpse of what Apple’s smaller and cheaper iPad may look like. Here’s what we know so far:

  • It will come with a 7.85-inch display with 1024×768 resolution (same as the iPad 2 and the original iPad)
  • It may come in the same aluminium casing as the full-sized iPad, though Utrecht has created a rendering to show what an iPad mini with carbon fiber.
  • iPad mini will look like a big iPod touch, with narrower bezels along the sides of the device paired with thicker bezels at the top and bottom.
  • It will be a lot lighter and thinner than iPad 3.
  • It will come with Apple’s new Lightning connector.
  • The headphone jack will be at the top left edge of the device like the iPad 3 and not at the bottom like the iPhone 5.
  • Redesigned speaker grille, similar to the one seen on the iPhone 5.
  • Apple may offer an iPad mini model with 4G LTE/3G model capabilities, which will need nano-SIM card.
Check out the 3D renderings of the iPad mini below and let us know what you think.

  • Discreto

If they sell this for $300, they can’t ask for more than $200 for the Ipod

Well, not really, I think both products have their edge. The iPod Touch has a retina display, is much smaller and designed for mobility. The iPad Mini only has a pseudo-retina display, has more real estate but also not as portable.

Bigger doesn’t necessarily means better, it depends on the usage.

The price-points will depend on the processor they put into the iPad Mini as well. If they put in an A5X, then the price can be similar, IMO. They can also nerf down the storage to make up for the price difference.

      iPod Touch 32G $299, 64GB $399
      iPad Mini 16G $299, 32GB $399, 64GB $499
At the highest storage size, the iPad Mini will be the same price as the entry level of the New iPad. Feels right.
Of course they might bring in a 3G-radio version, which can slot in as
      iPad Mini 3G-version 16GB $399, 32GB $499, 64GB $599.

IMO who wouldn’t pay a hundred bucks more to have 3g (a feature Ipod Touch doesn’t have) and more real estate as you say, even if it won’t fit in my pocket?
On a 7 inch screen, maybe a retina display isn’t that necessary
Besides, if it’s portability versus usefulness, I’ll vote for the latter

  • Lethargy

First they made the iphone, itouch, and nano bigger. Now they’re making the ipad smaller. Make up your mind apple!!!

Nice rendering, just that the logo position doesn’t feel right, Apple’s designs are all about symmetry, don’t think they will place the apple logo there. Leaked parts confirm this as well.

Seems cool! This might be just the right size to go with. With the iPhone clearly being a mainly mobile device and the iPad being a little to big to really be “portable” this could work out quite well. Just hope they will optimize it for the old applications…

I must say this is something I wanted for a while

The 4G LTE celluar capability will make it a total winner. Although it has been announce that it will be Wi-Fi only it seems that celluar capable option cannot be far behind. What do you think ?
