iPhone 5 May Be Coming To India And Malaysia On October 26

iPhone 5

We’ve some good news for our readers in India and Malaysia. Apple hasn’t announced when it plans to launch the new iPhone 5 in India, but Boy Genius Reports’ India focused blog – BGR.in reports that according to their sources, Apple is planning to launch it in India on October 26.

Apple has announced that iPhone 5 will be available in 100 countries and 240 mobile carriers by the end of the year.

BGR.in reports:

Multiple sources have confirmed to us that Apple is preparing to launch the iPhone 5 in India on the last Friday of this month, which happens to be October 26. As we had exclusively reported earlier, Apple will be distributing the iPhone 5 in India on its own rather than relying on its carrier partners.

We expect the iPhone 5 to have a wider availability unlike the past where it was not available readily everywhere.

MacRumors also points out that The Malay Mall had also reported that iPhone 5 will be coming to Malaysia on October 26:

“If orders remain within projections made by Apple by Sept 30, the Oct 26 launch date in Malaysia together with several other countries will remain,” noted an industry source.

“Should there be a shortfall in available supplies, the Malaysian launch date could get pushed to sometime in November.”

iPhone 5 first went on sale in US, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and the UK on September 21, followed by the launch in 22 more countries on September 28.

It remains to be seen at what price Apple launches the new iPhone in India, as it has been significantly more expensive to buy an iPhone in India than other countries as carriers don’t offer an upfront subsidy. They offer the iPhone on reverse subsidy plans to customers, where one has to pay the full price of the iPhone upfront but can recover up to 100% of the cost over a period of 2 years if you stick with the carrier.
