Samsung To Unveil 4-Inch Galaxy S3 Mini Tomorrow

Here’s an interesting development. While Apple gears up to launch a smaller and cheaper version of the iPad, which is unofficially dubbed iPad mini, Samsung will be holding a media event tomorrow to launch a smaller version of its popular flagship smartphone Samsung Galaxy S3.

The Verge reports that Samsung has confirmed that it will unveil a 4-inch Samsung Galaxy S3 mini at a media event tomorrow, October 11.

Samsung has confirmed to The Verge that it will hold an event on October 11th. “Galaxy S III mini will come with 4-inch display and we are going to unveil the product tomorrow (Oct 11th).”

The Verge reports that JK Shin, head of Samsung Mobile Communications, did not provide any further details about the device, but has said that increasing demand for 4-inch devices in Europe has been one of the driving factors for introducing the smaller Galaxy S3. He also said that it won’t be an entry-level model and will have “full form factor”.

This is interesting, as it comes hot on the heels of the iPhone 5 launch, which comes with a taller 4-inch display. Samsung Galaxy S3′s screen currently measures a sizeable 4.8-inches, so giving users who think it’s too big, a 4-inch option does make a lot of sense. It gives them one less reason to switch to an iPhone.

The 4.8-inch Samsung Galaxy S3 and 4-inch Galaxy S3 mini will give iPhone 5 a serious run for its money. What do you think? Sound off in the comments below.

You mad apple fanboi?? Unlike Apple, Samsung actually cares about the consumers. But hey what do I know…iPhone 5 has speaker jack on the bottom now right lol? I guess a lot of ppl wished for that haha

      • Mario

Galaxy Nexus. Made by Samsung and Google. Headphone jack on the bottom. (Blows head up)

      • Nik

I disagree mate, the reason i got an iphone is bad after sales support for omnia and galaxy s. they acted twice the worst way, ignoring me.

      • Justin

Actually I don’t know if people thought about this, but when I listen to music, I hate putting my iPhone right side up in my pocket. It’s annoying!

      • dbrawna

cares about what…. about how to replicate a good phone… and sell it slightly cheaper… with the worst materials possible…

  • Alan

Is apple getting desperate increasing there screen? It’s called covering all the bases as people have different tastes I prefer a bigger screen but a 4inch screen fits better in the hands of the majority of people

    • http://www.facebook.com/itsdamanib Damani Brown

That wasn’t a display of desperate… it’s called keeping up with the bigger screen trend. If they didn’t make that move, they would have lost many customers… Samsung having millions of Android devices to compete with one little iPhone is pretty desperate if you ask me.

      • lol@fanbois

        no one asked you.

as a previous iPhone owner to be honest, i don’t care.
    Theirs always
going to be competition, and as an open minded person i really have to
say, the consumers are the ones that really suffer, because of all the
choices the market is bringing its hard to decide what you really want.
so if you are a apple fanatic, go ahead and buy your apple WHO is
stopping you, your paying for it. on the other hand if your a android
fanatic or a windows fanatic the same goes for you. it’s your money your
the one that’s going to decide what your money can afford or be spent
on. Your choice of phones are not someones else

  • nik

personally i dont care as long as the OS is the same. i never liked android.

  • Lowryder

forget u samsung, always mocking the iphone for being small, then u go and make one really? copy cats?

    • diamondgeezer

Just like apple said that the iphones original screen was the perfect size and anything bigger is pointless, then they go and release the iphone 5 with a bigger screen…. copy cats????

  • http://twitter.com/MurderMySwagger T. Life

Im wondering if this device is going to have as many issues as the 5 has had after it hits stores?

    • dbrawna

what issues… purple hue and scratching are not issues…

who cares if their getting desperate, its called a business. their gonna make money how they see fit. i actually took back my gs3 cause it was to big and i liked the feel of my bionic, now that they are making a mini i will go and get that. people have complained the gs3 is to big, samsung isnt getting desperate they actually care about their customers and are creating a product to appeal to that market.

  • Ash

Wow, I love the way Samsung are constantly innovating, oh no sorry I mean copying!

    • Xero14

Actually apple increasing their size to keep with todays demands and trends suggests now they’re copying.

Samsung Galaxy S III Mini specifications have been unearthed by German site Mobilegeeks, and if you expected a powerhouse, you’re in for a disappointment.
The Galaxy S III Mini is not — as some may have hoped — just a smaller version of the powerful Samsung Galaxy S III. According to Mobilegeeks, it has a 1GHz processor, 1GB of RAM and a 5-megapixel camera on the back.
The screen size is 4-inches, which for some might be an improvement over the Galaxy S III’s huge 4.8-inch form factor, but the resolution is a paltry (by today’s standards) 800×400 pixels.
Finally, the Mini has EDGE/GPRS/HSPA connectivity, 16GB of storage (expandable to 32GB via MicroSD memory cards), a MicroUSB port, a 1500 mAh battery, and it’s all powered by Android 4.1 or Jelly Bean.
The device, primarily aimed for the European market, will cost 399 euros ($510).
