MacPhun, the folks who brought us PhotoStudio and ColorStrokes for iPhone—and other great photo apps‚ have just released ColorStrokes HD for iPad. I’ve had a chance to play with it and…yeah it’s fun. Really fun, really easy, really awesome. The folks at MacPhun have also given us three codes to giveaway to you! How about that! Let me show how it works and the code giveaway info will be at the end of the post.
You probably know by now that I love taking pictures. I also love messing with my pictures in various filter and editing apps to make my images standout. The apps from MacPhun—ColorStrokes especially—do the cool things (like recoloring images, neat filters, etc) very well (and very easily). I have to say my favorite of these apps (and I have most of them on the Mac, iPhone, and iPad) is ColorStrokes (formerly Color Splash). Take a picture, the more colors the better, and it turns it to greyscale. Then you paint either the original color back on, or a whole new color. Like in this promo pic they sent me:
Until today, you could use the app on a Mac and iPhone or on an iPad as a doubled up app. However…the long awaited HD (iPad native) version is out and selling for $0.99 (iTunes link).
Here is the description of the app from the iTunes page:
Made with love for your iPad and shiny new iPad Mini!
Create the most stunning photos with the colors you want!
Take advantage of amazing iPad screen & superb Colorstrokes features to create rocking color splash photos in few taps.
Colorstrokes HD gives you a rainbow of colors and other great tools:

– Different monochrome backgrounds
– Handy editing tools (gamma, contrast, hue, exposure, etc)
– Customizable painting brush

And, yes the app is still brilliantly easy to use. One drawback I found is to post to Instagram, you have to install the app on your iPad…which isn’t an iPad native app. Not a big deal, but just a little annoying. The rest…yeah it’s great.
So, let me show you what I did with it.
I started with this pic I took with my iPhone 5:
Then edited it in iPhoto for iOS (on my iPad). I like iPhoto’s editing and correction tools a lot, so I went with it:
Then opened ColorStrokes and had a little fun:
Took almost no time to do and I was able to tweet out the pic in a couple taps.
Not bad, if I do say so myself. Also pretty awesome for an app that’s $0.99 right now (I don’t know if it will go up or not). Of course, we have some codes for you to win…
Here’s how to win one of three free codes
- Leave a comment on the post and
- Tweet a link to this post (the Twitter button is just fine) and make sure you @iphonehackx so we can find your tweet.
- Include your Twitter id in your comment (also helps us find you more easily).
Disclosure: I received a promo code to review the app. Of course I also bought a copy for my wife.
