One of the simplest things getting in the way of people taking great pictures with their iPhones comes down to a single screw. The tripod screw. Affixing an iPhone to a tripod requires an adapter of some sort that a) holds an iPhone securely and b) has the threaded hole for a standard tripod mount screw (1/4″, btw). One of the most popular adapters is the Glif from Studio Neat and it’s finally available for the iPhone 5.
This is one of those great small gift-stocking stuffer items that you just need to know where to get and who will want one (pretty much anyone who takes pictures with their iPhone) the Studio Neat Glif is a paltry $30 and comes in the basic (Glif) and Glif+ (which includes the Serif which holds your iPhone extra securely and the Ligature which lets you attach the Glif to your keychain).
The only drawback I see is that the Glif is designed (like many similar gadgets) to work with a naked iPhone and I see this as just…frustrating. When I want to take a steady shot I don’t want to have to take my case off my iPhone (and find a place to put it and then put it back on). I understand why they do it, but I still see it as a bit of a barrier.
I’m going to pick up one of these Joby GripTight Micro Stands for the main reason that I don’t have to take my case off my phone to use it.
What do you think of the Glif? What’s your favorite iPhone photography gadget?
