Hot on the heels of jailbreaking iPad mini, the jailbreak dream has also successfully jailbroken the 4th generation iPad that also went on sale on Friday along with Apple’s smaller iPad.
Grant Paul aka chpwn has tweeted the screenshot of Cydia running on the jailbroken 4th generation iPad.
It doesn’t look any different than on the iPad (3rd generation), but here’s Cydia running on the iPad (4th generation): http://t.co/zhrii6uX
Not surprising as most of the changes are under the hood. It looks like the same failbreak method that was used to jailbreak iPhone 5 and iPad mini has been used to jailbreak iPad 4. The failbreak is almost like a tethered jailbreak but needs a developer account.
iPad 4 is powered by Apple’s new A6X chip, which is a variant of the A6 chip that powers iPhone 5, so it is good to know that it works on Apple’s new chip. Based on the screenshot, it also looks like the jailbroken iPad 4 is running iOS 6.0.1 that was released last week.
It is currently possible to only jailbreak iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPod touch 4G (tethered) running iOS 6.0.1/iOS 6.0. It remains to be seen how long it will take for the jailbreak dream to release the eagerly awaited untethered jailbreak for iOS 6.x.x for all the compatible iOS devices.
