BGR India follows up on its yesterday’s iPad mini report with further details about the device’s launch in India, this time with a tentative starting price of the Wi-Fi model. Yesterday’s report noted that Apple’s Indian distributors are expecting shipments of the device very soon, which they will in turn be forwarding to retailers.
From BGR India’s report:
According to multiple sources, the iPad mini is likely to be priced at ₹ 21,900 [~$395] for the base 16GB Wi-Fi only model.
At the moment we do not have information about the pricing of the 32GB and 64GB variants but typically Apple follows a price gap of ₹ 6,000 [~$110] between variants. If Apple follows the same with the iPad mini, we would be looking at Rs 27,900 [~$505] and ₹ 33,900 [~$615] for the 32GB and 64GB iPad mini variants respectively.
With the iPad mini, iPad 2 and the iPad 4, Apple would have a great lineup of tablet devices in India spread across varied price points. Currently, the iPad 2 sells for ₹ 24,500 (~$445), and the cheapest iPad 4 variant is expected to be priced at ₹ 30,500 (~$551).
The iPad mini’s pricing would be very competitive with Asus’ Nexus 7 and Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 2, both of which sell for slightly less than ₹ 20,000 ($360).
BGR India’s report notes that the initial few weeks following launch might see constrained supplies of the iPad mini, with the cellular variant of the device unlikely to be available on launch day.
