Are U.S. Emergency Alerts Working on Your iPhone?

The U.S. National Weather service said that it would start sending emergency bulletins directly to people’s phones earlier this year. Looks like the system is working for more people now.

Nwsalert121812This news slipped my attention in June, but iOS 6 included a built-in function to receive warnings from the the weather service or Amber Alerts. I gather from the TUAW post today, that the rollout was rather hampered at first, but seems to be better now:

Well, the system is apparently working with the iPhone 5 at present, as I received the alert you see at right earlier today. The area where I live is currently under a blizzard warning, so I received the message. My wife uses an iPhone 4S on AT&T and did not receive the alert, and Erica Sadun — with the same equipment and network — was also left in the dark. I’m not sure if that’s because they’re on an “older” iPhone model or if AT&T hasn’t initiated the service in the Denver area.

Which I think is awesome for people. While we have a National Weather Service in Canada, we don’t have this function on our phones.

Have you been receiving these bulletins on your iPhones or did it just start all of a sudden for you as well?
