Are You Having Battery Life Issues After iOS 6.0.2?

Yesterday Apple released iOS 6.0.2 for iPhone 5 and iPad mini which is supposed to fix lingering WiFi issues in both devices, but has this update caused battery life to plummet as well?

This just perking up from TidBITS:

I can’t state categorically that the just-released iOS 6.0.2 for the iPhone 5 and iPad mini will hurt battery life, since evidence is still anecdotal and battery life testing requires time. And yet, while there are not so many reports to indicate that the problem is universal, or even necessarily widespread, at least three people on the TidBITS staff noticed unusual battery drains over the last 24 hours, and a quick sanity check on Twitter revealed a number of others who have also seen surprisingly low battery levels since updating to iOS 6.0.2.

The post reports one user’s experience of his iPhone 5 draining from 97% to 85% while just sitting idle in a bag while in the car. The circumstantial evidence points to something with over zealous WiFi trying to scan and connect. I haven’t noticed any significant issues, however I haven’t been paying that much attention to battery life after updating my devices. The question goes to you:

Since updating to iOS 6.0.2 have you noticed a change in your device’s battery life?

Let us know in the comments.

I’ve had this issue on my iPod Touch 4g every since iOS5. The wifi makes my router completely drop internet and battery life is really bad. It’s never been fixed really(Siince iOS5) and was my main reason to not go with Apple products for mobile or streaming. It’s been ongoing with different devices as well. They just can’t get it right it seems.

  • Fattrain

I can tell you that it definitely fixed my WiFi Connectivity issues on my iPhone 5

  • Stan

It’s affecting me lots. It’s only been 20 mins and I’m from 47% to 38% while on 3G.

  • Tristan

Nope, nothing has changed here at all.

  • Mark

My Ipad Mini has been idle in my backpack for 2 hours and I am still showing 100%. I dont think it is affecting me at this point

  • Joe

Would it kill the bloggers to proof read before they post? The countless errors are really starting to get on my nerves…

    • iPhoneHacks

Sorry about that, the typos have been fixed.

    • gotAlife

  • torzaaaleigh

my iphone 5 definitly seems to be draining even quicker than it was before the update! not happy, it seemed that an update was necessary to improve the battery yet one comes and now its worse…

  • Kimk69

First time that I ever did an over the air, Delta update and battery is good.

    • Lord Gogo

I don’t reccomend doing OTA updates. That causes big problems for restore solutions in the future if you ever need to restore. It screwed me out of my jailbreak on my 4S.

      • Jauhari

OTA is not for Jailbroken Device

  • Steven

My battery has been pretty bad since updating to 6.0.2

  • Dude it

Yes. My battery life is draining 35% faster with the 6.0.2 update. Not cool

  • Andrew

Haven’t updated. Specifically cuz musclenerd advised against it if you plan to jail break. Hopefully that means something is coming soon.

  • weirdwanda

    Started taking screen shots:
    9:28 PM 87%
    9:33 PM 83%
    9:37 PM 79%
    9:46 PM 74%

Wifi on or off – do difference. LTE on or off – no difference.

    • Jauhari

      Try to reboot your device

    • Kenny Timmothy Hempson

      Same here

  • Hk

    Not for me

  • Baked

Not to happy bout this upgrade… First day I hade the iPhone 5 it was sweet, was on 1% for almost 2 hours and I was using it constantly, today I upgrade and u could see the battery dying just sitting there running no apps at all, pathetic ready to give this to the wife and get back my jail broken iPhone 4 running 6.0.1

  • Zheng.Won

  • Tora

    Usage: 2hrs 47mins

    Battery: 76%
    Seems fine to me!

  • Tristan

Have user’s struggling with battery life tried restoring? Something has clearly gone wrong with your particular updates, as the majority of people have no issue.

    • sbailey4

i agree, and countless folks with wifi issues upgraded over wifi. Really?!?!?!

  • S Yu

Idle for two hours, and it came down from 98% to 57%.

  • Dissapointed iPhone user

My battery life has gotten worse since 6.0.2, here are my current stats:

    Usage: 3 hours 9 minutes
    Standby: 23 hours 2 minutes

    Battery percantage left: 36 %

  • ezisxl

wifi gone (gray), battery very poor

    • Rounak Jain

i’ve heard at least three cases where people’s wifi option has been greyed out. One of them got a replacement from Apple (iPhone 4S)

  • efk0nas

I’ve just noticed that after this update my iPhone 5 shows 3G near network name even when it’s turned off in settings. Maybe that’s the problem?

  • Joe

I have a iphone 3gs upgraded it to ios 6 battery life was terrible then , downgraded it to ios 5 much better

    • Mike

How can you downgrade ios? I thought that it wasnt possible

  • Terry

after upgrading(?) to 6.0.2 battery life has been pretty bad. Initially went from 90% to 45% in about an hour with no phone usage. After full recharge it seemed to improve but this morning it is again draining quickly. It may be related to wifi connectivity as my internet access via cable company has issues in early morning hours, so maybe the connection software in 6.0.2 is overworking in this situation.

  • tot

Mine drains faster. It was at 20% last night at midnight and it’s now at 13% at 8AM after having sat on my nightstand all night. I’m letting it drain to do a full charge to see if it will help. Will try a DFU reset after that.

  • kdub

    100% prior to update at 8:00am….now at 63% at 8:36am. Yeah..I’d say there’s a problem.

  • Symelighting

Camera issue with the update. My auto focus on the rear camera now can’t focus on anything unless its very close. Was working in 6.0.1 but 6.0.2 did something nasty. Anyone had the same issue?

  • Stavross

Check your BT connection is set to off as mine had changed to on after update but I noticed this before experiencing any battery issues and must say all has been good since upgrade. I would say this could be a cause for excessive battery drain.

  • Phyl

I’ve noticed a huge drain in my battery life

  • Shrivatsa Somany

I think I know what the problem is, the battery is out of sync. I definitely noticed some intense battery drain in the ~50 – 40% range, and I had only clocked around 3 hours of USAGE, with around 6 hours of standby. I am at 16% right now with 6 hours and 22 minutes of usage, and 13 hours and 51 minutes of standby. I have streamed spotify over bluetooth for roughly an hour, and I left WiFi on.

Solution: Let the battery die completely.

  • San Takashima

I’ve updated iPhone 5 to 6.0.2, 2 days ago, and found the battery draining faster. So I downgraded to 6.0.1. worked… using iPhone5,2_6.0.1_10A525_Restore through iTune.

  • Farid Ibrahim

It’s affecting batttery life without question. Updated to 6.0.2 this morning around 8:00am. Had about 2 hours of talk time and 30 mintues of browsing over an 8 hour period. By 4pm the battery had completely drained, where normally I would be at 50% with that amount of usage over 8 hours.

  • stubal

I just came across this post and very interesting. I thought my battery has been draining quickly since the last update and thought it was just me… but now i know otherwise. There is definitely a battery issue on my iPhone 5 since the update, had to charge my phone mid day yesterday and I’ve never had to do that before. I hope there is a fix soon!

  • Karl

Yes I have drains very quickly

  • sammie

ever since i upgraded my phone the batt life is horrible it wont even last a whole day and i dont have to use it for it to die, it will go unused all day and when i go to make a call it dies…

  • Kruelspell

Its eating battery life twice as fast as with 6.0.1. Battery ends in half the time. Apple fix this or allow us to downgrade. This is a big fail!

  • Jvrlass

I have upgrade my iphone 5 to 6.0.2 and now the screen is going crazy, it seems like i’m pressing the screen like i crazy

  • Poisonous

26 minutes of use 3 hours stand by- 88%
I’ve noticed a big difference. All my apps have been quit. I won’t make it through a whole work day at this rate. Less impressed with my new iPhone :(

  • Andrea Hodgson Holt

My battery is now only lasting 4-5 hours with out any use. This is sily as i had no problems before this.2 upgrade!!!

  • Kenny Timmothy Hempson

Before the update every thing was ok on my ipad mini. Just a bit slow with wifi then after I put the update iso 6.1.2 it screwed up my ipad in 35 I went from 100% to 95 … Yeah epic fail from apple you bunch of tosses like I want to spend more money… Any one know what can be done
