Many reviewers, in their mostly positive reviews of the iPad mini, noted that the lack of a Retina Display was a disappointment, especially for users who got used to the brilliant Retina display on the full-sized iPad.
Taiwanese publication DigiTimes reports that according to their sources, the next generation iPad mini will come with a Retina Display.
Apple’s next-generation iPad mini will focus mostly on enhancing the device’s display resolution, according to Taiwan-based backlighting industry sources.
The sources have yet to specify whether the device will use Apple’s Retina Display technology to enhanced resolution, but market observers said it is highly likely based on the development of past Apple products such as the iPhone and 9.7-inch iPad series.
It remains to be seen if Apple will indeed launch the iPad mini with Retina Display as experts have outlined various challenges Apple will face to bring the higher-resolution display to the smaller iPad.
DigiTimes also reports that the next generation iPad will be lighter. According to their sources, Apple plans to use new LED light bar design that will allow Apple to power the 9.7-inch Retina display with only one light bar. iPad 3 and iPad 4 uses dual-LED light bars design.
