Report Claims Next-Gen iPad mini To Feature Retina Display; Next-Gen iPad to be Lighter

Many reviewers, in their mostly positive reviews of the iPad mini, noted that the lack of a Retina Display was a disappointment, especially for users who got used to the brilliant Retina display on the full-sized iPad.

Taiwanese publication DigiTimes reports that according to their sources, the next generation iPad mini will come with a Retina Display.

DigiTimes reports:

Apple’s next-generation iPad mini will focus mostly on enhancing the device’s display resolution, according to Taiwan-based backlighting industry sources.

The sources have yet to specify whether the device will use Apple’s Retina Display technology to enhanced resolution, but market observers said it is highly likely based on the development of past Apple products such as the iPhone and 9.7-inch iPad series.

It remains to be seen if Apple will indeed launch the iPad mini with Retina Display as experts have outlined various challenges Apple will face to bring the higher-resolution display to the smaller iPad.

DigiTimes also reports that the next generation iPad will be lighter. According to their sources, Apple plans to use new LED light bar design that will allow Apple to power the 9.7-inch Retina display with only one light bar. iPad 3 and iPad 4 uses dual-LED light bars design.

How is no one else annoyed with apple releasing 90% of a product every 8 months. If the retina screen is the only upgrade to the iPad mini it’s just such a slap in the face to loyal day 1 supporters. I wasn’t one of them but I know lots who were/are.

I sometimes even think they hold back with features and technology to have something shiny for the next generation.

Like releasing an ipad with a decent cpu after 6 months, instead with the 3rd gen

Would be nice if the next iPad had the same, thin bezel at the sides as the iPad mini. It’s really sexy. ;)

I’ve been waiting for that since the iPad 1!!

Can’t say how much I agree to this. Always found the bezel too thick and never agreed to the reason that you wouldn’t be able to hold it “properly” (whatever that’s supposed to mean) with a smaller margin.

Most likely the main thing will be retina display with a thinner bezel and weighs lighter…. All the new features will be for the new iPad…. I do agree they hold back on features and save it for the next new device…. They prolly have blueprints for the next 2 generations
