Earlier Apple was rumored to be considering building a R&D center in Beijing, today there is all but confirmation from Apple itself that Apple will have an R&D center in Shanghai set to open this summer.
No word if this will derail a potential Beijing R&D center, but as we discussed before, having an R&D center in China, close to many of its manufacturing facilities, just makes good sense.
According to reports, Apple has three buildings registered in Shanghai, two of them already slated for procurement and R&D, and will have a summer opening time. Since we know that Apple considers China to be one of its most important—and lucrative—areas of focus, this tangible investment in the country will certainly help boost its profile there.
