A week from today President Obama will be inaugurated into his second term of office. If you can’t make it to Washington or won’t be close to a TV on Monday, you can still follow along. Yep, there’s an app for that, from AT&T.
The app looks quite good and will let you watch the Inauguration live through the app. If you are going to be in Washington for the Inauguration, then there are maps, schedules, and other important information for you.
Of course, there is the social media portion where you can read news about the festivities from bloggers, news outlets, and (I’m assuming) the rest of us.
Since the app is free, there is no harm in checking it out, even if you don’t get a chance to watch the event. The only downside to the app is that I wish it were Universal. I understand the app is really geared to people there in Washington, but it would be nice for those of us not able to be there to watch on a device that wasn’t so tiny (or pixel doubled).
Event apps are actually becoming big business. I a former client holds Comic Cons around North America and they invested a lot in a app for their shows. Did the fans appreciate it? By and large yes. The key, of course, to all these apps is that you have ubiquitous Internet access. We’re much closer to that point for people with WiFi-only devices or limited data plans, but not quite yet.
