Tap To Unlock Your Unlock iPhone With tapUnlock [Jailbreak Tweak]

‘Slide to unlock’ has been one of the iconic features of Apple’s iPhone. We can still remember Steve Jobs describing how the iPhone can be unlocked when he unveiled it in January 2007:

“To unlock the phone, I just take my finger and slide it across. Wanna see that again? We wanted something you couldn’t do by accident in your pocket. Just slide it across – BOOM.”

But if you’re bored of it and are not looking for anything fancy like the Unfold, PaperLock jailbreak tweaks, then check out tapUnlock.

As the name suggests, the jailbreak tweak replaces the Apple’s patented slide to unlock feature with a “tap to unlock” button, which allows you to unlock your iPhone by tapping on it.

The jailbreak tweak has been developed by HASHBANG Productions, developers of jailbreak tweaks such as MapsOpener (tweak that allows you to set Google Maps as the default Maps app) and BrightVol (jailbreak tweak that allows you to easily control brightness with the volume buttons).

The jailbreak tweak also replaces the “slide to power off” slider with a “tap to power off” button.

Check out the video walkthrough of the jailbreak tweak below:

tapUnlock is available for free on Cydia.

Tapping to unlock is one of the very oldest tweaks. When I JB my phone, though, I prefer to not even have a lockscreen.

Agreed not to say this is a useless post some people dont know but definitely should be pointed out that this is older than the 3G I think

Yeah yeah, not useless. I didn’t mean to imply that. Just that it’s not new. I would like to see more tweak posts, though, and more complete information about them.

Not really, this particular jailbreak tweak was released earlier in the month (2013). So the idea may be old (though we couldn’t find a tweak prior to this), but the tweak is new.

I’ve been using the tap tweak for years before I discovered the no lock tweak. I’m surprised you couldn’t find similar tap to unlock tweaks.

Yeah, there have been tweaks like “Tap to Unlock 5.1.1″, but they haven’t looked nice or newsworthy. tapUnlock seems like the best implementation of the tap to unlock feature we’ve seen so far.
