Hacks For Your iPhone That Don’t Require A Jailbreak

We’ve have seen a number of hacks in the last few months, which allow you to do things like change your iPhone’s carrier logo, hide stocks apps, or the Newsstand (folder) without jailbreaking.

In this article, we’ve compiled a list of hacks that don’t require jailbreaking.

Change Carrier logo:

As a regular jailbreaker, you’ve probably tried changing your iPhone’s carrier logo to an image of your choice. But now a tool called CarrierEditor lets you do exactly that, except that you no longer need a jailbroken iPhone.

Check out our original post for the step-by-step guide on how to change the carrier logo of your iPhone.

Theme Your iPhone:

You won’t be able to customize your iPhone like the way you can with jailbreak tweaks such as Winterboard or Dreamboard, but you will be surprised to know that it is possible to add custom themes to your iPhone without jailbreaking.

Add Apps to Newsstand (Folder):

We’re not sure how someone figured this one out, but it is possible to add unlimited number of apps to the Newsstand folder using a hack that doesn’t need jailbreaking.

Check out our oringal post for the step-by-step guide on how to add apps to the Newsstand folder.

Hide Newsstand

Newsstand was one of the major features of iOS 5, which essentially organizes your magazine and newspaper app subscriptions in one place to access them easily and quickly.

But if you don’t want to use it, there is no way to delete it as it was pre-installed or hide it in a folder (as it behaves like a folder).

Hacker and developer Filippo Bigarella has released an app aptly named StifleStand that allows you to hide the Newsstand on the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch in a folder with a single click.

Hide Stock apps:

You can hide stocks apps using a hack that uses the Passbook app without the need to jailbreak your iOS device.

You can check out our original post to find out how to hide the stock apps using PassHack.

That’s it. Most of them fall in the just for fun category and should also work on your iPad. So check them out as we wait for the evad3rs dev team to release the untethered jailbreak for iOS 6.x.

Of course, these will be forgotten and laughed at when the jailbreak is out :)

not for those who had updated theirs OTA. too bad if they missed that detail.

A quick backup and restore via iTunes will sort that :)

they can always do a full “restore” with the firmware… that’s not realy a big issue, just takes a little more time and work…

What do you mean? My 4s I upgraded over the air to 6.1 last night does that mean the upcoming jailbreak won’t work?

Please explain sorry if I missed it but will be gutted!

evad3rs dev team have said that for the jailbreak to work, you should avoid OTA update and instead do a full restore from iTunes. But don’t worry, you can still do it, before the jailbreak is released.

We’ll publish how to prepare for the jailbreak shortly.

you’ll be able to jailbreak it. but after ios 7 (or whatever the next version is) comes out, you possibly won’t be able to restore your 6.1. example: you got your phone stuffed with hacks and tweaks, device is slow and annoying, so you want to restore 6.1 and ios7 is out for quite a while but still not jailbroken.
so the only option there is to stay on your slow 6.1 or upgrade to 7 without jailbreak… but it might not be an issue tho…

This is why you back up your SHSH blobs with TinyUmbrella so you can downgrade in the future.

Pretty sure that doesn’t work on the iPhone 4S and 5 though.

I really want to put some of my apps in the newsstand but i cant get the jist of it. I press the home button and then immediately press the app but it dont work.

You press the home button and after a second, you can hold the app and quickly swipe to the 2nd screen, the apps will shake and then open newsstand and press the home button. It should be in there.
