Apple Releases iOS 6.1.1 For iPhone 4S

Apple has just released iOS 6.1.1 (build 10B145) for iPhone 4S.

The update fixes the 3G connectivity issues that was affecting iPhone 4S users, which we had reported over the weekend.

From the release notes:

This update fixes an issue that could impact cellular performance and reliability for iPhone 4S.

It is currently available via OTA. It is 23MB in size.

Jailbreakers should avoid upgrading your iOS device to iOS 6.1.1, until the evad3rs dev team release a new version of evasi0n jailbreak for it. Jailbreakers should also take a backup of the SHSB blobs for iOS 6.1 using TinyUmbrella before Apple stops signing iOS 6.1 firmware file, if you haven’t jailbroken your iOS device with evasi0n yet.

It’s quite strange that Apple has released an update only for iPhone 4S, as iOS 6.1.1 beta that was seeded last week was available for all iOS devices.

If you were facing the 3G connectivity issues, then let me know if things have improved after installing the update.

Update 1:

You download iOS 6.1.1 for iPhone 4S directly from here.

Update 2:

planetbeing of evad3rs dev team has confirmed that evasi0n jailbreak still works with iOS 6.1.1. They will be releasing an update to support iOS 6.1.1 shortly.

Please oh please let evasi0n still work with 6.1.1 – My 4S is sad with it’s connectivity problems :-p

  • Sylar

can I still backup my blobs? or I m already late?

    • Michael Basquill IX

If you used evasi0n for 6.1, Cydia will have your blobs on their server so you can fetch them from TinyUmbrella.

      • mdph

how come we don’t see blobs on cydia homepage anymore?

        • Michael Basquill IX

Cydia is under such heavy load that saurik had to temporarily turn off this feature. You can save them yourself by usingTinyUmbrella – download it, install it, plug your device into your computer, and click the “Save SHSH” button.

well that was strange.. what about us iphone 5 owners? We are facing 3G connectivity issues too..

  • Dave

Worse than before only get 1 bar and mostly SOS

  • Andrew

Well me and my girl must be lucky. I have an iPhone 5(6.1 jail broken). And she has an iPhone 4s(6.1 jail broken). Neither of us have had any issues so far. We are on Verizon so I’m wondering if this is linked to only certain carriers. Any thoughts?

As a previous, any news for Iphone 5 users? I have an IP5 and I’ve been having a lot of LTE issues here in Los Angeles. I have to constantly put my phone in airplane mode, and then back to normal so that re-establishes an LTE connection. Has anyone with an Ip5 experiencing similar issues? Im on 6.1.

    • Rounak Jain

That happens with my iP5 on Vodafone’s India network as well. Goes back to 2G every once in a while, have to toggle the 3G switch a couple to times to force it back on 3G. Very annoying.

    • JD

im sure these are carrier issues…not iphone issues.

      • Rounak Jain

Carriers are quick to point blame at iPhone

  • Key

what exactly is the issue on the 4S with 3G connectivity ?? i haven’t seen any. is it localized ?

    • Upgrayedd

I heard it has something to do with Some European carriers, is that right? If you live in the US and use ATT do you need to upgrade to 6.1.1? I just jailbroke my 4S and I would not like to do that over again if I don’t have to.

      • iPhoneHacks

The issue didn’t seem to be limited to European carriers. But if you are not facing any issue with 3G connectivity then you don’t need to update.

    • iPhoneHacks

European carriers like Vodafone UK had sent text messages informing customers not to upgrade to iOS 6.1. However, the issue seemed to affect users in other countries as well.

The only time I seem to have connectivity problems is when I’m at work…Downtown Miami in a all concrete warehouse

  • mark

Can I update over the air and then JB or do I have to download the whole ISPW file?

    • David Bell

Downloading the ISPW file will make it easier when restoring, Open iTunes after downloading it, Hold down the option key then click on Restore iPhone and then you can select the downloaded ISPW 6.1.1 file

The evad3rs dev team thinks it’s better to do a full restore before the new 1.3 jailbreak for 6.1.1

  • tootoot

is there a posibility of losing all my files when i update my iphone 4s

    • iPhoneHacks

Unlikely, but it is always a good idea to take a backup of your device using iTunes or iCloud, so you can always restore from the backup if you hit a problem.

    • David Bell

Depends on which files you mean ? If you backup your iPhone through iTunes it will save contacts, music, ringtones…etc but other than that you shouldn’t lose anything when updating

Where the hell is the update for iPhone 5? The battery issue is murder.
