Evasi0n Used To Jailbreak 7 Million iOS Devices In Four Days, Making It The Most Popular Jailbreak Ever

Couple of days back, we reported that evasi0n was used to jailbreak 4 million iOS devices.

We’ve an update on those statistics. Jay Freeman aka saurik, founder of Cydia has told Forbes that 7 million iOS devices have been jailbroken using evasi0n in four days.

saurik reports that of these 7 million jailbroken iOS devices, 5.15 million are iPhones, 1.35 million are iPads and 400,000 are iPod touches.

According to him, this makes evasi0n the most popular jailbreak ever in iOS history. He says it has brought “insanely more new traffic” than the Absinthe jailbreak that was available for iOS 5.x.x and even JailbreakMe, which was the easiest jailbreaks as one could use mobile Safari to jailbreak their iOS device.

Evasi0n jailbreak is the first jailbreak for newer iOS devices such as iPhone 5, iPad mini, iPad 4 and iPod touch 5G, It is also the first untethered jailbreak for iOS 6, which was released by Apple in late September.

The surge in traffic from jailbreakers has caused availability issues on several Cydia repositories, which had made it difficult to install jailbreak apps and tweaks initially, but things have gotten a lot better now.

Have you jailbroken your iOS device using evasi0n? If so, which one?

I’m sure apples marketing department would be looking at these figures I’d say the majority of these 7 million wouldn’t buy an apple device if it couldn’t be jailbroken so that would be 7 million or so less that they’d sell. Any smart company would be looking at this and taking note for future firmware upgrades it’s risk management really. Secure it too much and you don’t get any new ideas or sell devices pretty simple to me Apple.

To be fair I’d say the majority of the 7 million devices were bought before the jailbreak was even announced as definite. But it would interesting to know how sales of iDevices have been affected since the jailbreak.

I can only answer from my perspective.
I have had an iPhone since the first one was jailbroken.
I have upgraded every time I was able to.
I even talked many people into buying the iPhone because of jailbreaks.
I even bought two without a contract because of jailbreaks.
        I have an iPad.

        This time was different.
I have had the cash for 2 months to upgrade our two iPhone 4. I wasn’t sure if there would be a jailbreak. So I waited.

If not for my transmission going out in my truck this week, I would have bought two iPhone 5’s.

Now Apple will have to wait a few weeks for my cash.

If jailbreaks ever go away, I will not buy any more iproducts.

Apple take notice, we love your device. The closed down OS, not so much.
Shut down jailbreaks, We will go somewhere else.

I normally don’t jailbreak my devices for a couple of days or so, just to see the bugs worked out. I’ll be jailbreaking 2 iPhone 4s, 2 iPhone 3GS and an iPad 4 this weekend.
