iPhone Users Reporting 3G Issues After Upgrading to iOS 6.1

MacRumors reports that Vodafone UK has sent out text messages to its iPhone 4S customers informing them to avoid upgrading to iOS 6.1 due to 3G performance issues.

Vodafone has posted the following notice on its website:

Some customers may occasionally experience difficulty in connecting to the network to make or receive calls or texts or to connect to the Internet. Apple is working on a solution to their software issue. These connection problems are intermittent.

While Apple’s investigations continue, we would recommend that anyone who has not yet installed iOS 6.1 on their iPhone 4s should delay doing so until Apple has confirmed that their problem has been fixed.

It doesn’t look like the issue is only affecting Vodafone UK customers, as this Apple Support discussion thread, which runs into 10 pages, seems to indicate that it is affecting users in other countries as well. Users in the forum thread are reporting that their iPhone can’t get a 3G signal in certain areas after upgrading to iOS 6.1.

Apple had released iOS 6.1 to users on January 28th. Apple should fix the issue in iOS 6.1.1, which was seeded to developers few days back.
