LivePapers Brings Animated Wallpapers To Jailbroken iPhone, iPad & iPod Touch

If you’ve jailbroken your iPhone then there are tons of ways to customize it. You can install a Winterboard theme, or as I showed you yesterday completely transform the user interface by installing a DreamBoard theme.

Lately, I have noticed new tweaks in Cydia that customize only certain aspects of the iOS such as SubtleLock that gives iPhone’s Lock screen a minimalistic makeover.

LivePapers is another such jailbreak tweak that falls in this category. As the name suggests, it brings animated wallpapers to iPhone’s Home screen and the Lock screen.

  • LivePapers developed by Porkholt Labs! is more like WinterBoard and DreamBoard, which offers users with a framework that can be used to install animated wallpaper add-ons.
  • It comes with some basic default add-ons such as Bubbles, Solid etc.
  • Its the paid add-ons such as Nexus that really liven up your iPhone Home screen and Lock screen. As you will see in the video below, it also allows you to change every aspect of the animation, which can be unique to that wallpaper add-on. So in case of Nexus, you can change the width or length, the velocity, depth of the strip and the strip count. You also have the option to use your own wallpaper or use the default background.
  • In case of Bubbles Pro, you can change the background color, the lifetime, size, opacity and velocity of the particles (bubbles).
  • You can enable the animations on the Lock screen and Home screen by tapping on the relevant option in the top left corner.
  • It is compatible with jailbreak tweaks such as Springtomize 2, Lively icons, Auxo, Zephyr etc.
  • The tweak uses OpenGL ES to provide smooth animations and the developer claims it is also “battery efficient”. I will let you know if it has an impact on battery life shortly.
  • It’s also compatible with iPad and iPod touch.

You can check out the demo video of the jailbreak tweak in action below:

LivePapers is available for free on Cydia. The Nexus and Bubbles Pro add-ons are available for $0.99 each.

LivePapers is a pretty cool tweak, but the add-ons available currently are limited. It will be interesting to see if the developers can attract creative folks to help them build the collection of animated wallpapers and make LivePapers the default app for animated wallpapers.

If you’re on a jailbroken iOS device then click on the download link below to install LivePapers from Cydia and let me know what you think.

Humm.. animates on lock screen for me but not on the home screen, bubble freeze in place. Also no configure button on the bubbles

    (damn typos)

Several comments, first of all it works great. The default bubbles have no settings, you must buy the pro bubbles for config settings to appear. The battery life is not an issue at all. The developers have the animantion pause after 40 seconds to conserve battery. It is better than vWalpaper as there is not delay in the animation when you wake phone or go to home screen. VWalpaper tends to blink on when you first wake phone. Also in my testing vWalpaper crashes on 6.1.2

This kind of app is always going to chew through battery. Knowing your sealed battery only has a fixed number of charges, why would you want to waste it’s life animating your desktop?

It all about Vwallpapers2!!! way better!

Tried it not really a fan though. It doesn’t get along to well with zephyr. Screen blinks everytjme u use the swipe up gesture or the swipe down gesture. Still a pretty cool concept. Although it may be an issue with zephyr as it doesn’t run to well with any type of animated background. Specifically weather themes.

Battery lasts like 30 min. Complete waste.
