Over 14 Million Devices On iOS 6.x Have Been Jailbroken

It has been almost a month since evasi0n, the most eagerly awaited jailbreak was released for iOS 6.x and new devices like iPhone 5, iPad 4 and iPad mini.

Jay Freeman aka saurik, founder of Cydia has revealed (via pod2g) that over 14 million iOS devices running iOS 6.x.x have been jailbroken.

pod2g, member of the evad3rs dev team revealed this via the following tweet:

That’s very impressive and we’re quite sure a majority of those 14 million iOS devices were jailbroken using evasi0n, as technically Sn0wbreeze and Redsn0w also allow you to jailbreak devices on iOS 6.x.

Evasi0n jailbreak is the first jailbreak for newer iOS devices such as iPhone 5, iPad mini, iPad 4 and iPod touch 5G, It is also the first untethered jailbreak for iOS 6, which was released by Apple in late September. It had quickly become the most popular jailbreaks ever when it was used to jailbreak over 7 million devices in just 4 days, so it continues to set the benchmark for the next jailbreak.

Unfortunately, evasi0n’s impressive run will come to an end when Apple releases iOS 6.1.3 as evasi0n won’t work with it as the upcoming iOS software update fixes two vulnerabilities that have been used evad3rs for the jailbreak. But that doesn’t mean an end to jailbreaking as the evard3rs have few more tricks up their sleeve to stay ahead in the cat and mouse game with Apple.

If you haven’t jailbroken your iOS device, then check out How to Jailbreak page for the latest tutorials on how to jailbreak your iOS device using evasi0n.

Count my iPhone 5, iPad 4 and iPod touch 5 as one of those 14 million iOS devices that have got their freedom.

      You mean 3 devices…

It’s really too bad that Apple doesn’t recognize the value of that JB allows. By preventing it, I’m guessing that there would be at least 14 million fewer iDevices sold. Count me as one who would not have upgraded to iPhone 5 (and given even more money to Apple) had it not been for JB on ios 6. Now I just pray that I will never have to restore my phone or the smart guys on the Evad3rs team still got it. I cannot be without JB.

It’s a hard choice for them. They are kind of forced into fixing the vulnerabilities to ensure that someone doesn’t use them with malicious intent. Piracy is another reason why they need to stop the jailbreaks.

Guess it is always going to be a cat and house game between the jailbreakers and Apple.

Apple should team up with cydia create a “tweak store” and have there own legit jailbreak (unable to pirate apps) so costumers can choose to apply it to the iphone either with itunes or just a simple toggle on the iphone accept tos and thats it, problem solved we would have our freedom and they can make money on apps plus a new (tweak store) it would eliminate a need for a non legit jailbreak everybody wins. God i wish i could work at apple with all my ideas i would crush the competition and triple their profit

          No. And this is why.

Hypothetically, if apple would ever come up with a “tweak store”, which they most definitely will not do, they would be no different from Android. The iOS would become crap. Also, they would not be able to prevent piracy at all. Think about it. Tweak Store with NO PIRACY? Hah. Even if Apple were to be able to get rid of pirate apps, to stop piracy, they would have to get rid of:

          1: Any rooting tweaks.

2: Any tweaks that could cause an exploitable crash.

3: Any tweak that you would ever jailbreak for.

Think a little bit. If they were to make this tweak store with all of these exceptions to tweaks, it would not be a legitimate “tweak store”. There would still be a need to jailbreak. People would be less satisfied because the iOS would be less stable.

No it wont be like android try and think bigger than that and the potential that an os with the ability of pick and choose what u want has to offer and also its the costumers choice either stability or freedom, freedom and whatevr happens after that is on you and i do c what u mean about the rooting and all that but its a problem that may have a solution and like i said what respectable jailbreaker would crete such a thing for the purpose of piracy when they are already getting everythjn they wanted ?

And with the android market cant almsot anybody submit apps ? Try and think of what im talking about with apples finest processed tweaks that are tested for stability all nice neat ready for us to pick and choose

    Awesome !!

love my JB and a massive thanks to those involved.Just one thing though, are they any closer to breaking the ATV3.

    • genXhippie

Imo, the chances of ATV3 being jailbroken in the foreseen future is virtually null. Move on…

Sad jailbreak may not work anymore for future versions. Upgraded my phone to 6.1.2 today before they release 6.1.3 and stop signing 6.1.2. I suggest you do the same, we may be stuck on this version for a while. My opinion is that the jailbreakers should keep any exploit they may have for version 7.0 or some other major upgrade. We saw how quickly Apple patched the current vulnerabilities.
