T-Mobile’s CEO John Legere is known to be a guy who doesn’t mince his words. At CES earlier this year, he called AT&T’s network “crap,” and at today’s “Uncarrier” event, Legere attacked rival carriers’ subsidy models.
“Stop the bullshit. Carriers are really nice to you… once every 23 months. This is the biggest crock of shit I’ve ever heard in my entire life. Do you have any idea how much you’re paying? Customers love smartphones, everyone hates contracts. If you come to T-Mobile, you’ve signed your last contract. If we suck this month, drop us. Go somewhere else. Customers don’t need another AT&T, Customers need someone to stop acting like AT&T.”
At the “Uncarrier” event, T-Mobile announced its push towards the contract free model by shunning device subsidies and letting customers pay for their smartphones in instalments.
T-Mobile will finally start carrying the iPhone 5 for an upfront cost of $99 followed by $20 instalments for 24 months.
Do you agree with Legere’s views on the carrier subsidy model?
