iPhone 5 vs. Samsung Galaxy S4: Drop Test

These days the comparison of a new gadget with the incumbent are incomplete without the drop tests.

So it was nice to see folks at Android Authority do us a favor and perform a series of drop tests from various heights to find out the durability of the newly launched Samsung Galaxy S4 compared to iPhone 5.

Check out the video below to find out which device performed better.

Android Authority reports:

There you have it. History repeats itself. The Galaxy S4 may be better than the S3 in most ways, but the build quality and resistance to damage appear to have remained unchanged. In fact, we will go out on a limb to say that the smaller bezels have actually diminished the robustness of the Galaxy S4.

The iPhone 5 passed another drop test with flying colors, emerging with only cosmetic damage.

It goes without saying that such drop tests are far from scientific, as the amount of damage depends on a number of factors, especially what orientation the device hits the ground. But there is nothing scientific about dropping your smartphone either.

People who are paranoid about it and/or don’t have a warranty that covers accidental damage, buy a case for their device anyways.

    iphone to the win <3

The GS4 got it easy, on the back is the spot that is hardest to break, it hits the side once and shatters where as every time the iPhone got that and had far less damage overall

this is a worthless test (if you can even call it a test), you NEED to provide the same amount of force on each part your test with, i noticed all test, the amount of force were on separate parts of the phone (iphone landed on a different spot than the S4).

    GS4 looks nice,but it’s cheap plastic

  • iPhone FTW

You kept throwing the iPhone on the edge from the first try but the S4 you threw it on it’s back and still the iPhone win you better be fair when you do another test noob.

this is stupid, they should of dropped it from the same height on the same side first like, one on its face and the other on its back, because we all know once iphones face hit the ground its over

i think they r just being general. so i dont think they really need to take the exact same factors to consideration. :)

iPhone 5 has gorilla glass so dropping it on the face would not do too much damage the first few times unlike with the past iphones
