A few days back we’d told you that T-Mobile would be enabling LTE and Visual Voicemail on existing unlocked iPhone 5 units by rolling out an Over-the-air carrier update. The carrier has now starting rolling out the update to unlocked iPhones running on its network.
The update is compatible with officially unlocked iPhones running iOS 6.1.x, and adds these features:
- Enables the following:
- Visual Voicemail
- 4G network indicator
- Commercial Mobile Alert System (CMAS)
- AWS LTE (T-Mobile and officially unlocked AT&T iPhone 5 only)
- HD Voice (T-Mobile and officially unlocked AT&T iPhone 5 only)
- AWS HSPA+ (T-Mobile and new 2013 AT&T iPhone 5 only)
- Auto configures:
- MMS Settings
- Personal Hotspot Settings (Smartphone Mobile Hotspot)
- APN settings for LTE connectivity
- My Account bookmark
T-Mobile’s rollout follows right after the carrier started taking pre-orders for the iPhone 5.
If you haven’t received the OTA carrier update then point your unlocked iPhone to this link on T-Mobile’s website and install the Carrier Settings manually on your iPhone. Let us know how it goes.
Update 2 (April 6):
As many readers have pointed out, the carrier update on the http://www.tmobile.com/isetup page doesn’t enable LTE, Voicemail etc. TmoNews reports that T-Mobile seems have stopped rolling out the carrier update temporarily and has also removed the support page, which suggests that it may have been rolled out prematurely. It’s not clear why, as it was supposed to roll it out yesterday according to the leaked internal memo. It remains to be seen when T-Mobile will start rolling out the carrier update again. We’ll let you know as soon as we get an update.
