During today’s second quarter earnings call, Apple’s CEO Tim Cook said that the company is gearing up to launch “amazing new hardware, software, and services” this fall and throughout 2014.
Tim Cook said:
We’ve got a lot more surprises in the works. Our teams are hard at work on some amazing new hardware, software, and services that we can’t wait to introduce in the fall and into 2014. We continue to be very confident in our future product plans.” Cook said that there will be “really great stuff coming in the fall and across all of 2014.”
When he was asked to reiterate about the fall announcement, he had this to say:
We don’t want to be more specific, but we have some really great stuff coming in the fall and across all of 2014.
He later said that one the areas of growth were potential future categories:
Q: Did you mention new product categories in the introduction?
A: One of our areas for growth are potential new categories.
Q: Would that be in the next year?
A: We didn’t announce a specific time frame.
Tim Cook comments are interesting as it indicates that Apple is planning to launch the next generation iPhone, iPad, iPad mini and possibly iPod touch later this fall rather than in summer as some rumors have suggested.
Apple is also rumored to be working on a smartwatch, dubbed iWatch, a television set and a killer app that could be bundled with iOS 7, which could be Pandora-like streaming music service or a mobile payment system that makes use of fingerprint sensor and NFC technology in the next generation iPhone.
We can’t wait to find out which what Apple has in store for us later this fall.
