When Apple released iOS 7 beta 1 for developers of its iOS Developer program couple of weeks back, we had reported that regular users were able to install iOS 7 beta on their devices without a developer account i.e. without registering the UDID of their device.
It looks like it is also possible to install iOS 7 beta 2 that seeded yesterday without a developer account. A number of readers have confirmed that they have been able to install iOS 7 beta 2 by following these steps.
- Download the correct .ipsw file for your device
- Connect your phone to iTunes and (Alt/Option for mac, or Shift for Windows) on the Update button instead the restore button.
The trick is to use the Update option rather than the Restore option. We’ve received information that this also works on the iPad. Apple seeded the iOS 7 beta for the iPad and iPad mini for the first time yesterday.
Some of the readers who had installed iOS 7 beta 1 without the developer account have also confirmed that they have been able to upgrade to iOS 7 beta 2 by installing the over-the-air update without any issue.
Many of you may want to try this trick to check out what iOS 7 looks like on your iOS devices, but please proceed with caution. They are a number of reasons regular users should not install the beta versions of iOS 7.
