YouTube user UnboxTherapy followed up his video on the iPad 5 casing with a new video that allegedly shows off the aluminum shell for the second generation iPad mini. He then compares it to the leaked iPad 5 shell and one from the current 9.7-inch iPad model.
The video compares the iPad mini 2 shell with the casing from the original iPad mini. According to our host Lou, the two shells are almost identical, which suggests Apple isn’t going to tinker with the size or shape of the next generation mini.
He then moves on and compares the iPad mini 2 with the iPad 5. The iPad 5 is longer and wider as expected, but the thickness is about the same as the iPad mini 2. This is an interesting observation and makes you wonder what magic Apple is doing to the iPad 5 to make it so thin.
Of course, this video is all about dimensions and doesn’t answer the most pressing question we have about the iPad mini — will it have a retina display? I’m leaning towards “Yes”. I think Apple will bump up the resolution on the iPad mini display in the newer model and keep the non-retina on the market as its budget tablet. Rumors suggest Apple will introduce new iPads next month. If it does, what do predict Cook and Ive have in store for their loyal iPad users?
