Google to add Notifications to its Search app for iOS
Google is ramping up its iOS efforts with another update to Google Now for Apple’s mobile platform. The big news today is cross platform notifications, which will bridge both the Goole Search app for iOS and Google Now in Android devices.
Google doesn’t want you to have to pull out your phone to use Google Now and these notifications are one step towards that goal. Rather than opening your phone to know what you have to do, Google will alert you first. Even more convenient, these notifications will work across all devices, including Android ones that are in your possession. Google writes,
So if you tell your Nexus 7, “OK Google. Remind me to buy olive oil at Safeway,” when you walk into the store with your iPhone, you’ll get a reminder.
The update will land in the iOS App Store in the next couple of weeks. Google is also adding a few improvements to search like a new comparison tool that’ll let you compare all sorts of items, including food, dog breeds and more. The UI also has been overhauled with a cleaner, touch-optimized look. You can download the Google Search app in the iOS App Store and then install the update when it arrives in the coming weeks.
