If you’re waiting for Apple to launch its smartwatch or television set then you probably have to wait until 2014.

Apple’s CEO Tim Cook revealed at today’s fourth quarter earnings call that Apple will unveil new product categories within 2014.

Cook said that he was pretty confident that Apple can use its skills building software, hardware, and services to create new products in categories the company does not participate today.

Back in April, Tim Cook had said that said that amazing new hardware, software and services are coming this fall and throughout 2014. He clarified that he “didn’t say that you would see them in this year and the first half of next year,” which suggests that the new products will be launched in the second half of next year.

There have been rumors and speculations that Apple will launch a smartwatch dubbed iWatch, and its own branded television set.

Tim Cook recently said wearable tech was an area of ‘profound’ interest for the company. Apple has also been busy filing trademark for the “iWatch” name in several countries, which indicates that it is gearing up to launch a smartwatch.

According to rumors, Apple has been hiring aggressively for the iWatch project, and it looks like health and fitness tracking will be one of the major features of the device.

Ever since Steve Jobs told his biographer that he had finally cracked integrated Television sets, the chatter about Apple possibly releasing its own branded television sets has got louder.

There have been rumors and speculations that Apple will launch an iOS based television set with Siri for extensive voice control rather than the conventional remote control.

Tim Cook has maintained that Television is an “intense area of interest.” At D11 conference in August he said that the company had a grand vision for Television.

It looks like 2014 will be an exciting year for Apple fans if it does end up launching two new products.
