Google is preparing to bring its desktop Chrome apps to mobile platforms including iOS. As spotted by The Next Web, Google is working on a toolkit to help developers build new Chrome apps and port their existing ones to mobile devices. The Next Web uncovered this toolkit in a Github repository managed by Michal Mocny, a Google software developer. The toolkit will help developers create n their apps for the mobile platform from start to finish, including mobile device design, bug testing and compilation. The completed apps can be submitted to the iOS App Store.
The iOS portion of this project is listed as “TBA,” but work on this toolkit has reportedly already started. This program is still in the early stages of development and should be ready for limited use in January 2014, said Google developer advocate Joe Marini to The Next Web. Google declined to officially comment on this project.
