A report in The Information suggests Apple’s iOS in the Car initiative is facing a delay due to internal strife at the company. Even as Tim Cook called the project “very important” following its WWDC unveiling, sources claim iOS in the Car faced an uncertain feature as Apple executives “didn’t quite know what to do” with the initiative.Since that initial unveiling, iOS in the Car has fallen off the radar with little to no public support from the automotive industry. A partnership with Mercedes-Benz and Ferrari has not been successful and other manufacturers like Honda are embracing Apple’s Siri Eyes Free technology instead. The recently leaked screenshots and demo video are the only evidence to date that shows the project is under development.
While Apple fumbles, rival Google is readying its own in-car infotainment system based on Android. The company announced at CES 2014 that is was partnering with high-profile manufacturers such as Audi, Hyundai, Honda, and General Motors.
