Apple seeds iOS 7.1 beta 4; Here’s what’s New [Updatedx8]

ios-7-1-logoApple has just seeded the fourth beta version of iOS 7.1 (build: 11B554a) to developers of the iOS Developer Program.

Apple had seeded iOS 7.1 beta 3 couple of weeks back.

The beta version is available for the following iOS devices:

  • iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, iPhone 4
  • iPad Air, iPad mini, iPad 4, iPad 3, iPad 2 and iPad mini
  • iPod touch 5G

You can download iOS 7.1 beta 4 from the iOS Dev Center, or update over-the-air if you were already on an iOS 7.1 beta.

Update 1:

Here are the direct download links for iOS 7.1 beta 4 (please note you need to be a registered developer):

Update 2:

In iOS 7.1 beta 3, there was a bug with the Shift key on iOS’ virtual keyboard. It looked off when it was on, and on when it was off. The issue seems to be fixed at least on the white keyboard.

Update 3:

Users are noticing a subtle difference in the slide to unlock animation. It looks like the highlight covers a wider area as it moves through (via MacRumors Forums).

Here’s a brief video:

Update 4:

The Photo app icon has changed (via iDB reader). However, as reader RShah points out in the comments below, the change isn’t seen on the iPhone 5.

Update 5:

Based on the initial analysis, iH8sn0w has tweeted that Apple hasn’t patched the userland exploits. It still remains to be see if vulnerabilities used in evasi0n7 at the kernel level have been patched.

Update 6:

iDB has spotted a minor change in the Phone Dialer. The Add to Contacts just below the dialled number has been replaced with a + button to the left of the dialled number.

Update 7:

Users are reporting that there is a bit more bounce while scrolling through Messages app.

Update 8:

As reader MSaber points out, the slide to unlock text also gets highlighted when new notifications arrive. It looks quite weird.

Update 9:

Here’s another video of the new slide to unlock/slide to power off animation.

Here are some of the new features and improvements that have been discovered in the previous beta versions of iOS 7.1:

My iPhone 5 Photo app icon is same as the one on the Left above.

    • Gautam

      Thanks, updated the post.

    • Fernando Crespo

My iPhone 5S still has the left icon

      • Brad Hodson

        Que curioso…

      • iOS7 happy user

I prefer this photos icon from from iPhoto 2.0 app.
        Looks better 4 me.
I changed it manually with iFile and looks cool

        • Sebastian Rasch

          Not really.

  • Slick

so scary its coming … I hope they wont patch it

    • Retribution

Of course they will and it will come with the final 7.1, they are not silly enough to patch it so to give people time to try and crack it before the final release

    • iPhoneHacks

      Links are fixed!

      • Yasin

the links redirect me to the apple developer website, still not working

        • Chris Harper

It says you need to be registered in the article. New links will be available within a few hours or days

  • Vince

Has anyone tried to “Shift” + click and update to beta 4 without dev account? I’m about to try it out

    • yasin

where did u download beta 4 because this link is the wrong one
btw you should not because there is a chance your phone gets bricked

      • Vince

Just figured that out once I read your previous comment. Looks like I won’t be updating after all

  • RShah405

And this Glow on the Lock Screen when a notification is received. It’s very Annoying and doesn’t go with iOS 7, i hope its a bug.

  • Shaun2311

Two of the updates mentioned above haven’t appeared on my iPhone 5s or iPad Air. I still have the same Photos icon as all previous iOS 7 releases and the annoying, confusing Shift key ‘bug’ from beta 3 still exists in beta 4. It looks like it’s off when it’s on and vice versa.

  • Doctortim

No point in patching the JB until final release. It would just provide a head start on new JB.

  • MSaber

Slide to unlock is highlighted in lock screen when notification arrives.

    • Gautam

Awesome, thanks for the screenshot. I have updated the post. It looks quite weird.

      • Sebastian Rasch

Really does look weird! Hope they’ll change it back.

    • Shaun2311

I don’t get the glow effect under the ‘slide to unlock’ text. But if my fingerprint fails Touch ID, I get the glow under the ‘try again’ text though. Like the other posts, I hope they remove the glow altogether. Looks weird.

  • Mike Tolsa

I too have the left photo icon on my ipad4 ….

  • Ari Shafner

How are these changes relevant to an x.1 update? imho, these very minor changes are worthy of an x.x.1 update. Wheres the innovation apple?

  • Ashton

Siri’s voice has changed in the UK

    • Shaun2311

It changed a few days ago on my iPhone 5s and a couple of days later on my iPad Air – both before beta 4 was released.

  • Michael Ramirez

has anybody try installing it without DA ??

  • Fadzly

    ugly slide to power off.

  • Carlos Moreira

Anyone with an iPhone 4s? Does this update have some fix for the iPhone 4s vs. IOS7 battery issues?
