Samsung was a sponsor of the Academy Awards held on Sunday night, and as part of the sponsorship, host Ellen DeGeneres was asked to use a Galaxy Note 3 during the show.
The sponsorship money Samsung paid worked out pretty well for the company, as a photo taken by Ellen using the Galaxy Note 3 turned out to become the most retweeted tweet in the history of Twitter, with over 2.7 million RTs. The photo was a “selfie” with Ellen and other hollywood personalities like Bradley Cooper, Brad Pitt, Jennifer Lawrence and more.

But while Ellen was seen using the Note 3 in the telecast, photos taken backstage show that she was using an iPhone, and not the sponsored Note 3, as revealed in these tweets:
Ellen isn’t the first celebrity to have used a different device than what she endorses. Oprah was earlier caught in an embarrassing situation after she posted a sponsored tweet about the Microsoft Surface from an iPad.
Samsung got a big win out of its sponsorship, but it clearly didn’t pay enough to get Ellen to fully switch to the Note 3 from her iPhone, at least for a day.
